Is a 512k connection good enough for online streaming? Aug 12, 2007
I want to watch live football online and i currently have a 256k connection which can barely stream at all. i guess this is because the media that i am trying to stream is around 364k.

so i was wondering that will upgrading my connection to 512k allow me to stream the matches properly? and how much suttering will be there?

any help will be much appreciated.

thanks.

To be honest others may have a different opinion, but I have a 1MB connection and I often have to hit pause to allow youtube videos to get enough cache to be able to play without stopping to download more.

This mainly happens in the evening when the internet is more busy.

I have the same. Sometimes youtube streams ok but speed is definitely throttled and nowhere near 1 MB.

When it's said 512 Kbps it's not really 512 Kbps.
When it's said 1 Mbps it's not really 1 Mbps.
Remember the sharing ratio. Unless probably you go for corporate account.
Most often I get only 50-70% bandwidth of my 512 Kbps connection.
Not enough speed to hook on to TVAnts/PPCast/etc.

If you're in Dubai, why don't you subscribe for Jazeera +1 +2 a la carte channels for just 8 Dhs/month added to your current sat/cable subscription? I subscribed to watch Italian league. Other leagues such as English & Spanish are there too (depends on the package).

Well, i actually want to watch EPL in particular and before i used to subscribe ART 1 to 6. but now they dint renew their contract and its gone to showtime (which is 135 bucks per month extra and is too much for me as im a student lol). I have e-phela so thats my problem. Showsports 1 and 2 are not available as a la carte :(

BTW, i did upgrade my connection to 512k and it seems alright...not too good but not too bad either. and in general youtube servers do seem slow. dailymotion and metacafe seem better.

You have the bucks for upgrading internet connection (for the sake of ugly video streams quality) but can't afford 130ish Dhs for subscribing Showtime (in fact it's replacing your current Pehla/ART)? :D

lol no, for internet upgrade i only gotta pay 40 bucks extra per month (from 256k to 512k) and i still do have pehla :P whereas getting showtime will cost me 135/month :( i know its not much of an amount but im broke lol

oh well, there not much of a discussion left here now. Mods, you may close the topic if you wish.
