Interesting article and speaking as a Contracts/Commercial Manager, what Engineer's do here do a perfectly good Form of Contract i.e. FIDIC is bordering on stupid. When are they going to learn that the more you play around with this standard, proven and well recognised Form, the more loop-holes you ...

Like many, in my day (S&O's days  ) I had plans to do this, that and the other. However, through your life's journey things/$h1t happens and you have to adapt/change your previously made plans. Sometimes, those changes lead you down a totally different path to that which you wanted to take,...

I agree Chocs, public flogging would be good, but very much doubt it would be used. As has been mentioned in the press recently: Community Service. Make those who break the law do community service i.e. sweep streets, clean litter bins etc, put them in the public eye where they can be seen by their ...

At the end of the day, its about road awareness (whats around you when driving), lane awareness (using the correct lanes) and abiding by the laws that govern the road. Yes, basic things, but how mant times at say a roundabout have you seen the person in the very left lane, try and cut accross two la...

Sorry to hear this. As said, if your new company want you, then they will find a way around the ban, simple as.

Also, as a side note: never, ever let a company keep your Passport, they have no right too as it is the property of your Government, not the Company's. Let them retain your Labour card.

I can, though, stick up for those companies that DO look after their immigrant labour. On the site i am working on, we have operatives villages that house a minimum of 20,000 labourers and junior staff - mostly from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc, and they are a world apart from what was shown on...

define speeding? IMHO, I do not believe that 80% of accidents are caused by speeding. I belive that these are just excuses that are used to impose further and heavier penalties + new laws that will generate cash for the Gov. If a road sign says 100km/h, yet you do 119km/h, you are not breaking the L...

It was originally stated on both DXB and AUH Police websites that in foggy weather you should turn your hazard lights on. I believe that this has now been removed as it is incorrect. Also, you will notice that for the majority of cars on the road, they do not have fog lights i.e. Honda, Toyota, Niss...

Just seen an add for a 2008 Audi TT, 2.0l turbo, 26,000km. When buying this car new, it would have cost AED155K, now the person selling the above car is asking AED108k Correct me if I am wrong, but Insurance Companies generally work on 15% depreciation for the first year, then 10% p.a. after that.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, drugs. Gov needs to start with trying to educate kids whilst they are at school, then continue that education through media etc. However, why should the public help to treat an addict? Was it the public that made them stick a needle in their arm, pop that pill or snort the line of whit...

It will certainly create an imbalance between male and females. China is a prime example of how only allowing 1 child per couple, with that result being that couple want only a male child, has now created a massive shortage of women for these males to marry.

Sad it is to have to admit, but if a case was found here, do you really believe that the Gov will announce it?

Dubai is partly reliant on Tourism, it is already down (hotels are at 30-40% occupancy) and would slump even further if one was reported.

It does not matter what depreciation % you take, when you come to sell the car it is only worth what the market dictates and/or what somebody is prepared to pay for it e.g. if you buy a new car on the basis that after two years you will sell it and you find that it should only be valued at 30% less ...

Just accept that when you buy a car, the minute you drive it awat from the Stealership, it will start depreciating. When you come to sell it, you will get for it what somebody is prepared to pay - simple as. Like other things, just accept: 1) you will get dents/scratches etc in your car from other c...

certainly was fun the last few days driving up and down the rain sodden road between DXB and AUH. Trying to keep the right foot with 400 ponies beneath it from spinning out whilst 2m away from the car in front, going thru small rivers running accross the road and puddles, was a hoot (YES, I AM KIDDI...

Re: TWO things not to do on SZR when it's raining...

Emerate, You have to admit, that while statistics show a large number of accidents were caused by Non-UAE nationals, it would be interesting to see the % per the population (as suggested by Dr.Strangelove) and it is a very good suggestion. Nobody is trying to point fingers here (I believe) but lets ...
