Re: Belgium first European country to ban burka

Is it true that wearing a burqa in Mecca in haram? I presume you meant 'is haram' rather than 'in haram' ('haram sharif' of 'masjid haram' refers to the mosque around the Kaaba - so 'in haram' could mean 'around the Kaaba') If so, then no - to my knowledge - wearing a burqa in Mecca (either in the ...

Re: Belgium first European country to ban burka

FD - sorry, I'm not sure. The article specifically says burqas are banned in the Grand Mosque - and I can't honestly remember whether I saw women wearing veils in there when I visited. There were certainly women wearing abayas - but to be honest I don't recall whether there were women wearing veils ...

Re: Belgium first European country to ban burka

Why do people get all emotional about the ban of burqa's in Belgium, while there is actually a ban of it in the holiest of holiest of Islam??? I personally don't get all emotional about the ban - I said I find the justifications quite amusing. Some people do indeed get quite emotional for the ban, ...

Re: Who Will Be Britain's Next Prime Minster???

Hey arnie - I hear you. I know many people who seek asylum in Germany, get approved, live and work there for a few years and then come to the UK. When they arrive they know how to milk the system for what it's worth - they have local councils paying their rent in houses in leafy Surrey. I didn't kno...

Re: Who Will Be Britain's Next Prime Minster???

How many Indians are entering the UK illegally and claiming either asylum or benefits? Those claiming asylum aren't allowed to work, those that are genuine do get to stay - but the numbers are swamped by Brits claiming benefits. Those here illegally aren't entitled to benefits (or are they?) So, no ...

Re: Belgium first European country to ban burka

So tell me, is this an expression of covering up her feminine attractions? Why go to all this trouble if she is not trying to show off her attributes? No. That is why Islam firstly emphasises 'modesty of the mind' and 'modesty of the eyes' - the intention should be pure and the onlookers should ave...

Re: Belgium First European Country To Ban Burka

Hey, I'm just a firm believer that if we don't know our history, we are bound to repeat mistakes. I thought it was an intersting fact that the veil pre-dates Islam and was worn by Athenian women - it surprised me to uncover this fact. (I was aware that the Athenians waged wars - almost annually, kep...

Hey, I'm just a firm believer that if we don't know our history, we are bound to repeat mistakes. Not so easy, Shafique. It is not YOUR history but OUR history. Re: Hamas TV Tells Children That They Will Become Martyrs

You have no point. If only one was motivated to attack their own government based on a religious book, then why are they called a Christian militia? The NYC bomber was also attacking his own people - he was, after all an American citizen - what's your point? The only difference is that he was motiv...

Re: Hamas TV Tells Children That They Will Become Martyrs

So its justified to attack foreigners in Europe and America, in the name of a holy book? Hmm. Nope, never justified to attack civilians at all. Just because the NYC bomber used the excuse of US bombing Pakistan to justify his terror attempt, it doesn't mean I agree with the reason. I'm just pointin...

Re: Hamas TV Tells Children That They Will Become Martyrs

As I said, I totally agree there are religiously motivated terrorist nutters in the world. In the US, however, numerically they are mostly of the Bible-bashing kind. But we rightly don't criticise the religion of Jesus for the actions of these numpties. Perhaps we do need to look a bit more deeper ...

Re: Hamas TV Tells Children That They Will Become Martyrs

I don't disagree, but you obviously deny the actual ratio of Islamic/Christian martyrs in modern days. I bet you a penny on it the muslim bombers win in hits performed and definately by attempts alone. Please define what you are calling martyrs. I certainly do believe that many more Muslims ...

Re: Hamas TV Tells Children That They Will Become Martyrs

Ok, so in what way was the NYC bomber affected by the concept of Martyrdom in Islam? And isn't the number of Muslims being killed (and considered as martyrs) not a reflection of those killing them? Isn't the much lower number of suicide bombers merely a reflection that there's a lot of killing going...

Re: Times Square Bomber - Why?

Nice attempt at guilt by association. The reason he gave for trying to emulate Timothy McVeigh (who was a successful American terrorist) was not 'radical Islam' but the bombing of Pakistan by the US. Like McVeigh, he had his reasons for wanting to blow up his fellow Americans - and like McVeigh it w...

You can assume what you like my dear friend. Re: Hamas TV Tells Children That They Will Become Martyrs

Indeed, Islam had nothing to with the Tim McVeigh emulation attempt. I'm still waiting to hear what 'martyrdom' indoctrination had to do with this attack on his fellow Americans? If he was indoctrinated by Al Qaeda - it didn't work too well did it. At least the numpty Richard Reid and the pants bomb...

Terror Double Standard

Whilst I've alluded to this in other threads, I thought I'd make the article more prominent - it is about a terrorist attack earlier this month on a Mosque. It's also been asked when the last suicide terrorist attack was made on US soil by nonMuslims (or more cunningly, by non-Muslim fundamentalists). Well, this year an American committed an act of suicide terrorism by flying their plane into a Government building. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/19/us/1...

Shaf, at least Rambo was fictional, but you are mixing reality with fiction now. My comment was a bit tongue in cheek - but the Mujahedeen included Bin Laden, and were the good guys when Russia was the occupying power in Afghanistan. And they did ride to Rambo's rescue at the end! But let's go to t...
