Can anyone advise the best place to watch Premier league games. Im interested in meeting up with some lads who watch the Newcastle United games for a beer and a laugh. Sick of sitting in the house and need to get out socialising more!

At least until the wife finds out!.............

The Movenpick at The Walk JBR. Massive screens!

Brilliant atmosphere that gets packed during Premier League matches. Happy hour is 6 till 9 (I think).

Ha'way The Lads!

Now we have been formally introduced, you can call me BM. May I call you GF?

No Mags on here, I don't think, or none who would admit to it. LOL

Sage & Onion is a West Ham supporter and FD supports a Dutch team, but that's because he's Dutch, or is it Netherlander, I'm not sure.

Any foreigners will support Man Utd and I'm a blue.

Citeh Citeh Citeh!

Are you taking wor lass to the match?

I would be but that four letter word WORK gets in the way of total enjoyment.

My wife works down in Jumerah, which looks like one of the best places in Dubai to live but I think the prices for property and rent in that area are out of our range.

How often do you get to Dubai, is it economical as a holiday resourt if you have a property? Sounds like a good plan but the flights are quite expensive, do you try and stay longer to reduce the air fare?, Emirates does fly direct from Newcastle and we try and get back at least once per year, although in July when we went back it rained for 3 weeks out of 4, so I dont think we shall be holidaying in the UK again next year.

Well GF I took a big risk but it paid off well when I bought in JBR off plan in 2003. I paid around £69.000 for a one bedroomed apartment with a sea view.
I like to keep it for myself but I do let it occasionaly to pay the service charge which is pricey.
I try to get over around 5 times a year but my youngest daughter loves the place too and that makes it a bit more expensive when I bring her with me. Sometimes I only stay 4 or 5 days as I work full time in the UK.
I shop around for my flights but usually fly from Manchester as I live in the Lake District and prefer the drive to Man rather than Newcastle.
I don't blame you about holidaying in the UK. To coin a phrase the weather is SH1TE

That was a very good price BM, Im sure your would turn a tidy profit if you ever sell it, or let it for that matter. Im sure they go for around 120,000 AED per annum fro a lease. So not a bad investment.
My friend lives in JBR and he loves it, mind his AC has never worked from day 1 so he's looking for another apartment. he's renting from the chief of Abu Dhabi police so he cant complain to much. lol.

One thing to say is that I've watched some disaster stories on TV where people from the UK parted with money and then the building companies here went bust and they ended up with nothing. At least you have something to show for your money and thats good. Long may you continue to enjoy Dubai. Its a great place to live and very very safe. My two kids love it here. Me..... I miss the green of the UK... but not the rain!

Yes, I've seen those horror stories too. I also put a deposit down on a 2 bedroomed apartment in JLT with Al Attar properties. I made a couple of instalments but had a bad feeling about the place.
Eventually I managed to get all of my money back, no interest though, but I was only too glad to be out of that so I was happy enough.
I don't believe they ever built that tower and Al Attar are no longer giving refunds. They won't have it to give, let's face it.

I was pointed to JBR by a friend who's cousin was vice-president of something to do with Dubai Properties.

He has always given me good advice and told me in no uncertain terms not to buy on the Palm when I considered it.

I think he said something about 'Terre Firma' :D

Continue to enjoy Dubai. It's a great place to be with the weather and all that. I spent a few years in Singapore when I was a kid and can remember the days spent by the pool while my dad had a few cold Tiger beers and talked SAFC to his Geordie mates :D
