Living and working in Dubai Apr 07, 2004
Hi everybody, I'm looking for any information on living and working in Dubai. The company I work for is considering opening a branch office in Dubai and for that reason I may be stationed there for some time.
My main concern is ofcourse housing and schools for my kids (3 and 11 years old)
Is there anyone (prefer Dutch people) who can help me out ?
Thanks
John

Hi John

I have been working and staying in Dubai for 4 months now. It's a great place to be. I am from South-Africa. Cars are very cheap, clothes are very cheap. Great schools, but school fees are extremely high, so I would suggest your company pay for tuition. My little brother is in Emirates International School, they have 83 nationalities in the school, school fees anything from AED 45 000 p/a. 0% TAX and interest rate of 3.9%, depending on your financial status.

Here are lots of rules and regulations, and any form of crime will not be tolerated. Dubai is voted safest city by Interpol. It's not yet summer, and already 40 degrees celsius with 65% humidity, it's really extremely hot.

Dubai is growing rapidly and construction never stops here. Taxi's and other public transport is relatively cheap and easy to access. For the first time in years, expats are allowed to "rent to own" property, renting an apartment is very expensive. I am moving into a one bedroom apartment, AED 40 000 p/a, you have to pay by 2 cheques (one post dated)

There are too many information, maybe you should ask more specific questions, and we can try to answer you individually.

Best of luck.
