Beach still open? Dec 22, 2008
Does anyone know if that beach about 2 petrol stations past Jebel Ali Freezone is still open. It's the one off shk zayed, down a road for a few km and then drive through some fencing and a bit of offroading. Always said no access but there were always cars and kite surfers there.

It is still open but you won't want to go there now. A bunch of pikeys and didicoys in white frocks have moved in and turned it into a festering hole. They have built full-on rickety shacks from barasti, complete with generators, open sewer toilets, satellite dishes, fluorescent lights, blaring music and revving quad bikes.

Its sacriledge! It used to be in a wildlife reserve and the expats who frequented it treated it with respect, cleared away all their rubbish and loved it for the seclusion and peace it provided.

I remember sitting under one of the shelters there and having a flamingo walk up the beach, right past me and on into the salt marsh at the rear, not a bother in the world and no predators to worry him.

It was scheduled for development eventually as part of the Waterfront Project, but what has happened there is just a rape of the last wild part of Dubai by the people who claim to care for it.

BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this the same place where they used to "throw their shoe" over something as minor as lighting a bbq fire or having a dog on the beach (not chasing those flamingos of course)?

Yep, thats the one. The Feds used to come around and tell everyone off if you dropped a fag end. Now its a wasteland of plastic water bottles, blue carrier bags and the remains of take away mezze! Its disgusting!

Damn, that's annoying.

Anyone got any places for quieter camping spots near Dubai? Can't be bothered to drive way out of town for it this time. Feel free to pm me if you dont want it publicised too much.
