How to catch flies Nov 09, 2009
As funny/wierd/sick it may sound, i have always been curious about how people think about ways to catch those tiny r@scals

My trick would be:

Put some yoghurt in a plastic cover
Leave it open until the flies settle
Wrap up the cover as quickly as possible!

Anyone with a better tactic?

Empty 2 litre plastic coke bottle
1.5 cups of water
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of vinegar
+/- 1m of string
Small piece of meat (OPTIONAL)
Serving spoon of Syrup (OPTIONAL)

This works, tried and tested by yours truly

in my home country they sell anti-flies paper covered with some special sticky thing (become like sticker paper) to attract the flies. lie the paper on some strategic places where there are lots of flies (e.g. near meat/foods). the flies stick on the paper to throw away.

but i rarely seen flies here, even around big garbage bins on the street side. at least not as many as in tropical countries.

Let some gheckos loose in your house.

Better still head to Dragon mart, but some of those little electrocuting tennis rackets and run around the house swatting them. Hours of fun and great exercise.

pretty fast? :D lol

I ve heard that a fly has 40 eyes. Dont know how true it is.

For them we are very slow moving creatures..

Even if move our hand at 60mph, we are still slow for them ..!!

40 eyes - hahahaha you got mutant flies of something? Flies only have 2 eyes but they are facet or compound eyes, meaning they have lots of lenses and have a sort of mosaic vision. Their eye-sight is super sharp and they have 360 degree vision, which is why they always see you coming.

once i've seen with my own eyes when my friend caught a fly on the table with just 2 fingers easily. though it was not dark, apparently flies are "blind" at night time.

LOL - if buttered toast always land buttered side down, what would happen if you strapped it buttered side up to a cat, which always lands on its feet?

Now there's a mind bender!

trust me I am VERY fast. I can show you if you want, we can meet up at a maloo cafe or something and show you some bruce lee chops :D

mind you my strike rate is not good :( i have got to try atleast 10 times before I catch anything. On good days I can catch them on my first go and make sure that they keep alive.

Yes its got to do with some fast reflexes and you got to be patient and strike at the right time, I learnt it all from the lions on the animal planet :D

Yeah, what rudeboy says might be true. I had a friend in school who would just catch flies in his fists just like that... He would then wash them away in the basin. I tried a million times but could never catch one.
