Not only do bachelors have to contend with crazy rental prices, they have to find the right area to live- away from families. There's not even a rule as to how many bachelors are allowed to share a villa/apartment (if they can share in the first place! The lower to middle income bachelors cannot rea...

^ True. Don't they know they need those low-income earning salesladies, store clerks, waiters, bellboys, cleaners, masseurs, drivers, etc to run a country depending on tourism? Where does the DM expect these human beings to live? If this goes on, there'll be a lot of empty hotels and resorts... And ...

btw, is it still true that they're tearing down the entire Satwa area, (i.e., from jafiliya to safa and al wasl to szr - a huge area!) to make way for yet again another luxurious residential district?

^ For a start, I have already discouraged some of my friends to go here and guess what, they're now in Singapore instead. I let them read about the REAL conditions here.

Would I assimilate and 'fit in' perhaps blend in an Asian country?*Puppypup ponders* Seriously I don't think I could do it. I like eating while I walk. I could leave crumbs. Isn't Singapore strict about things like that? No you won't. I'm sorry: Yes, if you leave crumbs, they'll catch you and put y...

^ That pretty much sums it up.
Actually I'm considering moving there now. One more advantage, for me that is, is the cheap flights between SE Asian countries, and no visa is required- I can spend a weekend in my country whenever I want.

Monobrow! Ahh... and surely beauticians here work in saloons, not salons!   Knight lol. I remember the rows of those "saloons" along "saloon street" in Doha. I imagined drunk rowdy cowboys must be inside those, and of course Charles Bronson. Where in the world do...

Made me think twice for a few seconds if I should just head back home.

It's the same in almost every country. By the way in case you didn't know yet, try to avoid getting a taxi around and before 12 noon and 4PM as during these times they are "closed". That's how the drivers call it, but actually it just means it's the end of their shift. They will not pick u...

Have you guys noticed those skid marks along the inner-most lane of SZR? You won't miss them.. there's one every few meters and most of them leads to the center island. Amazing.

On average, how many road accidents do you witness in a day? I guess for me I see around 2-4 along SZR from DIC to Deira.

There was this stupid movie back home about Dubai. And then recently a documentary showing only the beautiful places in Dubai. I immediately got phone calls from friends back home telling me that they didn't know Dubai was so beautiful and all and how they all wanted to come here now.

I saw some students working during the Gitex. One was in the ticketing booth and the other in guest-relations I think. They were surprisingly quite polite and competent.

^yeah, true. As a pedestrian, I once tried to cross in a corner street (within a zebra crossing of course) when suddenly out of nowhere (it happens all the time, you look once- all clear, then when you look again there's a vehicle about to hit you), two cars are coming straight at me. It seems they'...

What is it with those people who always seem to want to physically get close to you or bump you, i.e., violate your personal space? And the attitude of needing to be first in everything no matter where and how, like desperate.
I think that kind of mentality is just reflecting on how they drive.
