Help Needed - Expat Packages

I received a job offer earlier, and I need some help in assessing it. I know this topic has been addressed in the past, and I have reviewed those posts. However, every situation is different, and I thought I'd see if someone may be willing to provide some advice! The job is with a bank and the packa...

Fayz, Thanks for the feedback! No kids right now, but if my wife has her way, it won't be long! I'm budgeting around AED 12k per month for a 3 BR place....does this sound reasonable? No idea where I want to live right now, but I'm planning a houehunting trip shortly and should have a better idea aft...

Employment visa transfer - Non-Compete

I received a job offer earlier for Dubai, and one of the conditions was a 3 year non-competition clause which stipulated that if I left the company, for any reason, they would refuse to transfer my visa to any other financial institution in the UAE for a period of 3 years. As such, I would be unable...

Thanks XRW. I'm not sure about the apt. vs. villa thing. A villa wouldbe preferable, but from the classifieds I've reviewed so far, there seems to be quite a large price difference. Are there generally both available in all areas?

Thanks again XRW! You've been a tremendous help! One more follow-up question though. I remember reading somewhere that in the UAE, the buyer (person who is renting) pays the real estate agent, as opposed to the seller (landlord). This is the opposite of North America, so I thought I'd double check. ...

dbxsoul, Thank you so much for your informative post. The bank is a private institution and is not govt. owned. You are correct in your assertion that to date, I have only seen the offer of employment. Do you know if the labour contract is provided prior to moving to Dubai? I spoke with the HR depar...

Question about Area/Developments

I'm planning on moving to Dubai next month, and will be working in Deira. Based upon many of the posts here, it sounds like traffic is a nightmare, and in particular, bridge crossings are plagues with delays. Does anyone have ideas of areas or developments (flats or villas) close to Deira that they ...

Marriage Certificate - Attestation

I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed, but I did perform several searches and am now more confused than ever! I am moving from Toronto to Dubai at the end of this month (IA). I have accepted a job, and my visa is in process. However, I am married and my wife will be accompanying ...

dbxsoul, Thanks for your reply! It is indeed complicated! My wife is a Pakistani citizen, while I am Canadian. I managed to get through to the Pakistani Counselate here, and it looks like they can attest the document (which helps since the whole thing is in Urdu anyway!). I'm going to have them do t...
