The reason I ask is one of my friend's that owns an outdoor furniture supply company hired a Philipino worker(I mention race only because I think it plays a factor) but the employee's current employer didn't like him leaving all though he treated the poor guy like shlt and the guy worked for him for...

Yes like everyone else that has responded has said there is racism in Dubai, being of Asian origin and British you've likely experienced it back home as well. Having said that though, there are a lot of people who aren't racist in this city and there are quite a few successful Indians in Dubai. The ...

There is an area of Bur Dubai called Golden Sands, there are many hotel apartments in this area, I was paying AED ~1800/week to rent in Golden Sands a year ago while my residency/trade license was being sorted, i would guess it is a bit more now, that was for a serviced studio, including daily maid ...

Choco, I know you can hold your own, it is HP that I'd be worried for hahaha, more so because I don’t know how long I could hold my composure. You know what would be ideal, just having a bar night or coffee/juice night for this forum. Kind of an open house. To be honest a dinner might be a bit too f...

In your original post you had the age limit as 35, I didn’t qualify but now that you’ve lowered it, I’d be keen. Let me know the details, I’ve been making my own personal effort to check out most watering holes in Dubai anyway. I also was a bartender when I was in school if that helps, I don’t quite...

Banks in the UAE

Well I’ve finally accepted that I may be here for awhile, as such I’ve decided to open a bank account. I searched some old posts and found that Emirates bank and HSBC seem to be the front runners, is this still the case? Any advice you can offer for someone opening an account here? If someone wanted...

Instead of ADSL i use cable, same price and relatively same speeds, I didn't have a choice Etisalat just said you're getting cable. Anyway that was a bit of a tangent, for cable I don't have nor need a land line. My understanding is that except for a few select communities Etisalat is your only choice

That is F’n brutal, so if the attendants are being strip searched so they’re not keeping the tips, who is getting the tips? Is it being pooled or is management pocketing it? Either way this is just F’d up, the guys that work at the Emarat I fill up at are awesome, very helpful and always in a good m...

A friend of mine through word of mouth found a tattoo artist working out of her house, definitely was on the seedy side of Du...

best advice you can get is exactly what Yorky said, shop around. I'm personally anti-leasing although I did lease a car here for the first few months simply because I did not have residency and you can't buy a car without that. For a lancer for example, you can lease one, Insurance, maint all in for...

It is not that they don't like direct debit. Here it is a criminal act to bounce a check and my understanding is the laws are not the same for direct withdrawal. As such the company you just bought your car from has you by the short and curlies which finance companies will always prefer. if you thin...

It doesn’t much help your search for a job in Dubai but if you are just looking to get out of Aus, Canada has a huge glut in the pharmacy industry, they pay very high for these positions and your dad, if good at his position could write his own ticket. I have to friends that are pharmacists and fres...
