To be perfectly honest, charity is something that comes from within, I see no reason in having a go at rich people when indeed we have no idea whether the contribute or not, and even if they don't, well who says they have to?
We should all look inside ourselves and see what we can contribute to those less lucky than ourselves.

I wonder how many of the socialists have actually spoken to one of these poor workers they so emotionally talk about, or invited one into their house. Paying one to mow your lawn, wash your car, or walk your dog doesn't count.

Yes, she does.

She bought me a drink the other night.

It was a very worthy cause!

I suppose the capitalistic standpoint would be that these mega rich few will actually be able to help a larger number of poorer people by investing their, not so hard earned, billions into commercial ventures that will ultimately provide jobs and security for many, thereby creating a stronger economic ecosystem and further increase their already vast earning capacity.

In a democratic capitalist environment, Darwinian theory clearly shows that a corporation must adapt to the changing business environment or be overtaken by faster, leaner, more efficient corporations. In the Gulf, the need to compete in an open international market is put aside as protectionism, exploitation, monopolisation and government supported blocking of free trade competition is endemic. You have to follow the golden rule: He who has the gold...rules!

With the globally disproportionate numbers of rich vs poor, even if you stripped every billionaire of every cent of his worth and distributed it evenly to every citizen of the planet, there would still not be enough to go around.

For anyone who knows any Emirati history, in the early days of the union when the oil revenue started rolling in, Sheikh Zayed once pulled every dollar from the Central Bank and distributed it (in cash!) to the major families in the country based on their particular needs and personal requests. The caveat was that the money was a one time handout and should be used to build commerce and infrastructure that would help the long term greater good. Some, the sensible ones, took this to heart and put it to good use. In one fell swoop, he kick started the UAE economy as this injection of capital into the system allowed locals to invest in business ventures and create employment and wealth for themselves as well as the rapidly growing expatriate workforce.

In more recent times, the realisation that the sand on the surface was worth more than the oil underneath it, created the real estate feeding frenzy and the vultures that fed off it. The concept of 'Selling Sand by the Dirham' allowed the privileged few to bolster their already significant coffers to unrealistic proportions in an extremely short period of time and spawned the current generation of spoiled rich kids who think that money grows on palm trees and is merely there to further their own selfish impulses.

The financial crash may have been a wake up call, but when the money snowball is rolling down the mountain and has got so big that this global glitch is just a mere bump in the way that is easily ridden over with just a small dent in the surface, the need to flaunt that wealth to the less fortunate is increased. Sad, but an unfortunate fact of nature.

Personally I feel sorry for them. If jetting off to London with your gold plated d*ck extension in the cargo hold gets you off? Then so be it. Just don't expect any respect from the real people.

Re: The Spoiled Emiratis in London. Have a Look!!! Aug 06, 2010
so let me get this straight:

1) arabs when they go to london drive around in fancy cars, wearing fancy clothes, do whatever they like the BRITISH media create a big fuss about it.

2) when some brit comes to dubai and decides to get a bit kinky on a beach or in a shopping mall or behave like a CHAV, the BRITISH media is at it again creating a big fuss about it :S

lol so arabs cant do anything there and the brits dont get happy when someone doesnt allow them to do anything in dubai!!

if you are brit or a western thinking of coming to dubai, than honestly listen to Herve and do everyone a favour and dont come to UAE. Instead go to hmmmm India, walk around in a bikini and let all the malluss look at you like a xxx object... hmmmm but than again there are some women who like that sort of things ey! :D

oh by the way just because you have money and drive fancy cars doesnt make you spoiled!

Daily Mail or the Sun should do an article about spoiled Brits, Europeans and even Americans living in Dubai driving fancy cars ;)

Are british football players spoiled bunch of lads because they drive fancy cars and shop in designer shops?

Grow up ppl and GET ON WITH IT!!!!

Seriously I'm siding with the locals now, but lets face ,locals or not rich ppl drive flashy cars, I mean you wont see them driving a mini cooper like you, and that’s what money is for, right?
And I don't know why you came up with the assumption that they don't pay for charity, you are being too judgmental toward them, and sorry kanelli but when you do a personal charity you don't have to brag all over the news "that goes for everyone " and If I know those big cooperate CEOs, they just want media publicity and taxes write offs. I don't get it, why is when ppl do good deeds just have to show the hall world them feeding the poor and announcing it .

I seem to remember the UAE 'bragging' about the money that they have donated towards children literacy and various other charities.
I think the idea in announcing it is to encourage others to donate also.

Now who is biased against those who give. Tell me how it is acceptable to brag about how much money you blow on frivolous things yet not acceptable to brag that you give x amount of your wealth to x number of charities?

Benwj, pay attention the bold section.
Kanelli, you as usual you attack people with no ground for being who you are and in this issue gave the assumption that Arabs or locals who drives luxury cars does not do or pay for charity !! before doing so you should take a look at how much UAE red cross along with other government charity organization contribute to charily in which mostly the locals are the ones donating to. I understand you raciest issues here but don't make an as* of your self.

Along with the fact that you and the others never mentioned or talked about this issue until the media asked you to, and that why I refer to you guys as "sheeps" !! you and the rest of the sheep's never minded other westerns who lived way more high life style, not only that but made a figure out of them in your societies and wear t-shirts that has their pictures and make them walk on red carpets …
Stop being fack kanelli.

Among other charges of decadent spending, Mr al Boom was accused by prosecutors of spending millions in donations to football clubs and the purchase of special number plates.

uaekid, you have lost the plot again, which isn't unusual.

I give the same criticism to any rich folk who display obscenely grand shows of wealth. You are the one who assigns an Arab bias to me, because that's how you roll.

Middle Eastern businessmen arrested after crashing £180,000 Lamborghini in London square

By Daily Mail Reporter

Two Middle Eastern businessmen were arrested after a £180,000 supercar spun out of control crashing into four vehicles, police said today.

Abdulla Saeed Khalfan Al-Dhaheri, 28, and Sultan Khalifa Al-Muhairbi, 35, both from the United Arab Emirates, were held after the smash in Lowndes Square in Knightsbridge, central London, where residents have complained about boy racers disturbing the peace at night.

Lowndes Square is home to some of London's wealthiest residents, among them Chelsea football club owner Roman Abramovich.

According to London's Evening Standard, the car - a new £180,000 Lamborghini with only 250 miles on the clock - was on loan from the Italian carmaker to a client.

No one was injured in the crash which happened in the early hours of July 25.

The two men appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday last week. Al-Muhairbi was charged with dangerous driving and driving with no insurance and Al-Dhaheri was charged with perverting the course of justice.

The men, who are due to appear in court again on October 12, are said to have walked away from the pile-up, telling a passerby: 'It's all right, we'll pay for the damage.'

A parked BMW was reportedly flipped over by the force of the impact.

Property company director Siraj Dadabohy, 45, who lives in Lowndes Square, said: 'It's disgusting the way guys come here with blaring music and revving their engines.'

His neighbour Louise Shaw, 37, said: 'They all seem to think they're Lewis Hamilton and don't give any consideration for how much noise they're making.'

Most of the so-called billionaire blingmobiles have Middle Eastern number plates and are flown in for the summer.

I wonder how the conversation with the Policeman went ?

"But Yani you know who my father is, here take this money and call him - he fix everything"

"Why you are putting these bracelets on my arms, you think I am Pakistani ?"

"Open the door to this wagon - I will make complaint to your ruler - I make case on yoooooooooooo"

Al Dhaheri charged with perverting the course of justice - yeah ok, like he does not have a new passport by now in the name of Mohammed bin Dhabi and a Eurostar ticket for Paris ...... BYE - don't come back ! :bounce:

Erm, no they don't have the right in the UK.

We have laws that apply to everyone, regardless of race, creed, colour or size of their bank account. As for respect, maybe the perpetrators should have shown more respect to the laws of the country where they are before they decided to flaunt their wealth.

Our economy is crashed, with or without their assistance and hindrance.

Happens every year, must be a slow news week. Rich as they are all they do is stay in Knightsbridge (pretty yet boring area), drop thousands in casinos on the Edgeware road (slightly less glamourous than Monte Carlo) and think they are "bling" taking table service in laughable, tourist traps like China Whites.

Money can buy you a lot but evidently it can't be taste or even a clue.

What??? They can do what they want when in the UAE were the law doesn't, in most cases, apply to them. These are the very people who probably b*tch about expats not respecting UAE law.

Lets throw them in jail, take away all their rights, not give them access to a lawyer or communication with their families, parade them in front of a judge, find them guilty, fine them a million pounds, then deport them immediately.
