i've been in Dubai many years and i've visited all the pet shops arround well to be honest i see that petzone is one of the best petshop in the country i'm dealing with them since 2 years, they are grooming my dogs and taking care of them while i'm outside the country, i think it is unfair to list such a nice shop in your black list.[/b]

They do seem above average, however I cannot sanction the conditions in which they keep cats and dogs. The state of some is appalling and they just don't seem to care for them. Every time I go in to buy dog food, I feel like buying every dog there and giving it a proper home.

I keep out of all pet stores - not because I object to them, more I don't like pets and these places usually smell awful.

Hi the best aquarium store in dubai is Aquarium concepts in Dubai investment park, telephone 04 8856067. They have great quality fish, and it's a fantastic place to visit....

Not to sound rude but they are also a huge ripoff...last time i went there i found this bird cage which was selling for apprx 700dhs the next day i went to sharjah near rolla and found the same exact cage 100% for 150Dhs and oh yea the budgies they sell for 400 or more cost only 50dhs in Sharjah. I even bought one and took it to the vet and it was healthy. Maybe the bird or i was lucky but it still doesnt explain their ridiculously high prices.

I've been hanging out in pet stores latley. Took me a little while to find this one... opp Mall of the Emirates, yeh right, that narrows it down. Anyway, yes, this one is as bad as most.
I wasn't looking for a dog/cat... already expected them to be a rip off and don't want to encourage them being looked after in poor conditions.
Will probably try and get a dog from K9, but need a puppy, so it could be a bit of a gamble. I don't want to end up with a dog I don't want.

Definitely go with K9. There are also some other rescue centers. Please consider a dog that isn't a puppy any longer. A "mature" dog has much to offer. Go to K9 and take a look. You can find one that has been trained and loving and will probably be more loyal for having been rescued by you.

I would normally get a mature dog... but
I already have a Feline Friends cat, which must have spent the first half of its life being chased by dogs and has a major phobia.
I thought that getting a small puppy would allow the cat to accept the dog before it becomes big enough to be a threat.

A dog is a dog. If you can't has a major phobia I'm sure it will be able to tell it's a dog, regardless if it's a puppy. :) Do you know someone who has a small dog that you can "borrow" to see how your cat would react. Remember, if you take a pet you take it for life!!! Do you have a backup plan in case the cat can't make the adjustment? It would truly be unfair to the puppy if the cat can't adjust and you have to rehome it.

I'm guessing that the cat would freak at a small adult dog as much as a big adult dog. And the neighbours would'nt like their dog to be given back with scratches.
The irony is that I am also getting a dog to keep other cats out of my garden, garage & house (yes they come inside, beat my cat up and sh*t).
I would never rehome the dog, just because the cat didn't like it, so hopefully the cat would see the advantages of having a dog friend.

Sadlt the cat, no matter what age or size the dog is, is always going to see one as a threat. It's really not fair to put the cat in that situation.

Really the only best way for dogs and cats to 'bond' is it they grow up together, like mine did, had them both at 6 weeks old, 6 months between them, they were best buddies.

I rescued a puppy and the cat went mental, wouldn't go anywhere near it or would beat teh cr*p out of it.

Don't do it dude, your cat will not be happy. There are other ways to deter stray cats from coming into your garden.

Oh well, looks like getting a dog is not likely :(
Not sure how to keep other cats out without affecting my cat though.

Budgies found here @ 450 AED (F'expensive). Can't imagine what the cages must cost... Never going back there.... Attendees are not pro-active either...
