Agree-three prong UK/Sing. Also conversion plugs for any others are cheap and available in all supermarkets. Think twice about bringing too much electrical though as this is every man's dream an electrical heaven!

Hi Melissa dbxsoul mentioned Aussie tax. You are tax exempt I think if you work away for 2 years as a non-resident (you don't pay Aussie tax in that 2 years but if you come home within that period then you will have to pay tax on your previous earnings). As such you pay 10% flat tax on your interest...

Hi I think you could but it will be hard to coordinate. Your husband will have to have his visa first inorder to sponsor her and that could take a little longer than you think (and without sponsorship in Sing she will have to return home first, right?). Otherwise I think having a miad is like Sing w...

Apparently they are the same as the UK and I know definitely the same as Singapore. You can buy adaptors in every supermarket which is convenient like Union Coop and Choithrams-they also have adaptors for telephone plugs. Expedite....hmmm...are you good at queuing? An essential prerequisite here! I ...

I meant to tell you will have to get a UAE driver's permit/licence and depending on where you come from ie if you have a valid licence from a list of countries it is just a matter of paying the fee and getting a UAE one. I know Diamond Lease do rentals- http://www.diamondlease.com carlease@emirates....

Hi I think you'll find clothing same or cheaper and especially if it is on sale it seems to be a bargain. There are so many stores to choose from too so that is a bonus. Being blonde I don't think is such a big deal-nobody seems to care that much and I don't think you'll get anymore attention than y...

I think this must depend on where you come from. Compared to Australia taxis are a bargain and cheaper than anywhere I have lived or travelled in Asia except Japan though which was phenomenally expensive! Apparently renting/hiring a car is a good way to go if you are travelling alot...also buying a ...

Hi Food is not expensive but if you choose to eat out alot it will depend on where you choose to eat out. Quite frankly even the best restaurants here are not expensive until you factor in alcohol then that is expensive!! Cost of living is low here and I think if you do a search with Mercer or just ...

Well, I am Australian and I have been buying Aussie rib eye steak for DH32 per kg and it is cheaper than home and better quality-you pan fry it and it is great!! Pork products and especially bacon are pricey. People can shop at Spinneys, Park 'n Shop, Choithrams and Union Coop the later being the ch...

Also I buy blue berries sometimes and they are around DH12 for a punnet which is actually the same as home if I think about it. Also...

Hi For an idea of price look at the gulf news classifieds on line. Also once you are here you can look on pin up boards in all major supermarkets for a car. It depends on age, condition etc of course but I've seen cars on these boards from Dh 15000 up. Try also http://www.dubizzle.com as some of the...

Hi
Try www.khaleejtimes.com and go to the relevant classifieds section. Seems to be cheaper cars in there than Gulf News.....maybe most in GN are dealers and newer cars?? Also there are a stack of other websites if you do a search for UAE classifieds you'll get a choice!
Cheers!!

Kelly1966- a good place to look for maids/helpers/nannies is on the notice boards in the supermarkets like Spinneys and Union Coop. Expats being transient often advertise everything here. :)

Try the notice boards in places like Park n Shop, Union Coop and Spinneys-all supermarkets-Try the first two on Al Wasl Road I know I've seen people with notices up regarding shared rental. Also the suggestion about the paper is good there is also Kaleej Times too and they do have classifieds on line.

It all depends on your budget and what is most important to you. If you live in Jumeira/ Umm Seqeim you would be very close to many schools and nurseries, a variety of supermarkets and shopping complexes and Jumeira Beach with easy access to Sheikh Zayed Road and a quick car ride to most major malls...
