Today, this is the third time I saw a Fire in Al Quoz. Some says it is the Fourth Time since December. The first thing came up with my mind is "INSURANCE" and I honestly do not know the main cause of this fire is this a Propaganda so owners can get something on their Insurance(s)...?

Al Quoz (Arabic: القوز), or Al Goze, is a locality in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Al Quoz is located in western Dubai. It is bordered to the north by Al Wasl and to the west by Umm Al Sheif, Al Manara and Al Safa. Al Quoz comprises four subcommunities which make up the Al Quoz Industrial District:
Al Quoz First Industrial Area
Al Quoz Second Industrial Area
Al Quoz Third Industrial Area
Al Quoz Fourth Industrial Area


These industrial areas, which occupy much of southwestern Dubai city limits, service development projects such as Dubai Marina and Emirates Hills as well as the freezone in Jebel Ali. Al Quoz is being developed by Dubai Municipality as an exclusive industrial area; many labour accommodation facilities are located in Al Quoz. Some facilities (also called labour camps) are able to house about 2,000 labourers, who are segregated by nationality, to avoid potential disputes.

In March 2007, labourers from Al Quoz rioted, as part of a larger 8,000 strong protest against contracting companies, demanding better living conditions and a wage increase of Dh. 200 (US$ 55) and a food allowance of Dh. 150 (US$ 42) per month.

On 26 March 2008, an explosion ripped through two warehouses in Al Quoz killing at least two people. The explosion originated from a warehouse storing gas and subsequently ignited a warehouse next door containing fireworks. Flames from the explosion spread to seventy warehouses nearby, causing at least Dh 600,000,000 ($170 mil) of damage. Debris from the gas warehouse and fireworks warehouse landed as far away as the communities of Al Safa and Jumeirah. This is the seventh industrial accident in Al Quoz in five years.

What exactly does all this have to do with the fire yesterday afternoon?

I meant to indicate that this time, it might be another gas fire. Or even a small riot in the Al Quoz industrial area where the labourers reside.

It happened before.

Many of the warehouse units in Al Quoz are old and were constructed prior to regulated building standards, are used for storage of flammable materials with no knowledge of proper handling techniques and over filled.
The areas around the buildings are often used as dumping sites for waste and unwanted materials, increasing the fire risk and making the area a slum.
Warehouse staff often cook their meals and make tea using small portable gas stoves. Its a recipe for disaster and there have been a number of major fires in the last 2 years.

DUBAI - A massive blaze destroyed a cluster of warehouses behind Mall of the Emirates in Al Quoz Industrial Area on Saturday evening, forcing officials to evacuate at least 10 people.

No human casualties have been reported. Firefighters were still battling the blaze when this report went to print. Thick plumes of smoke billowed from the blaze and enveloped the area. The smoke could be seen even from Jumeirah and Shaikh Zayed Road.

Civil Defence officials said they evacuated 10 people working in the warehouses after the fire erupted around 4pm. “We are investigating the cause of the fire. The losses are yet to be estimated but they could run into millions of dirhams,” said one of the officials on the spot.

The warehouses belonged to Saleh Trading Company and Element Middle East but it is not immediately clear what were stocked in them.

The Civil Defence personnel cordoned off the area and firefighters from Al Quoz unit sprayed water for several hours to contain the fire. “Initially, we focused on preventing the fire from spreading to the nearby warehouses. Then we tried to put out the blaze but all warehouses in the cluster were completely gutted,” officials said.

This is worrisome. If it is not accidental than this trend is alarming.

Happens more often in times of economic crisis everywhere around the world.
