does anyone know the likely dates of the public holiday after ramadan?

October 12 - October 15 +/- 1 or 2 days

It is from New Moon to New Moon. So for this year start appr. 13 September and then it lasts for approximately 30-31 days.

29 - 30 days, never heard of a 31 day Ramadan

1 lunar month = 29 days, 12 hours, and 44 minutes....

although it does depend on the the actual sighting of the moon. i'd say 29 or 30 days is normal. 31 would be a streach .... but not totally impossible. if memory serves me correctly oman spotted the moon one day later than the uae last year and finished one day later as well.
