Working in Dubai & supporting family back in UK.

I was over there last week for an interview and now been offered the job, but package is not up to my expectations. It would fund my and families requirements back in UK, but not generate enough cash for savings...

Thanks for the reply, but if I did travel over alone at first giving that accomadation including utilities and car was included in package, what sort of money a month would you expect I would need to put aside for food and living expense?

Thanks again for the info, so you reckon under £1,000 will see me through a month for shopping and genral expense. That's great news, makes the maths work better for a move over.

Taxation Question.

What’s the scenarios of leaving employment and heading back home (UK) I’m lead to believe that you have to pick the right window of opportunity or you will be liable to pay back tax’s?

Dept

Only looking in from the outside as I haven’t moved over to the UAE yet, but a question on dept. I have read conflicting reports. Some have said that they end up trapped in the country when they fall in to financial difficulties and the only way to leave is to do a runner. Where on other stories I h...

The big sites such as Hotmail & Facebook are often carrying out updates and maintenance, so you may way experience problems logging on. Just keep trying & be patient.

Before I was flown out for an interview, my prospective employer asked for a scaned copy for a transit visa as I remember. Nothing was send in post before my arrival, just had my passport stamped at the airport.

I'm I just been cynical?

I’ve read quite a lot of negative comments on this site since I joined from members stating poor salary offers and others with unpopular changes to terms and conditions of their current employment. Along with this there are the posts about the recession hitting the UAE, do you think employers could ...

Frustrated!

After having very little success with recruitment agencies I decided to approach prospective employers myself. Either by clicking on the recruitment button on company websites and forwarding CV or by googling around and find names and email address. Do ae email address have only a small capacity say...

Electronics can be a nightmare with certain stores selling 'brought back' items as new. I've had two mates buy laptops only to find files and passwords from previous users. Plus in other countries you get all the software as part of the package, here you have to buy it in addition to the hardware. ...

Hi, do you get any other benefits such as paid utilities bills or fuel allowance?

It doesn’t sound like fortunes for a job that holds managerial responsibilities.

Good luck, hope it all works out for you.

Furniture allowance? You mean their gona give you a lump sum to go furnish the pad? I was offered this, good idea but beware as you may have to pay a percentage back if you don’t see out your contract which is fair enough I suppose. Are they offering you an end of contract bonus?

Re: Do you have friends leaving?

It's really started me thinking about how long I want to stay in Dubai myself, because at the moment I'm starting to consider it wasted time. Surely life’s what you make it, sitting back and setting for the safe options and an easy life is such a waste. But there are no guarantees that you’ll find ...

To spin it 180deg’s, do you think the current climate is stopping folk coming across. I had to turn an offer down last month because it just wasn’t right for me. Dubai on the cheap?

Question for the expats already living in Dubai, as I have already said I’m trying to land the right job for me over there. But it has to work out right so as I can live there plus support a home back in the UK for the first year, as I want to be sure things are going to work out before shipping fam...
