Wine in Dubai


ajb Just wondering what the availability and selection of good quality wine in Dubai is? Or is it more than worth while to stock up and ship over my collection or does this cause problems with duty etc

If anyone is ever interested in starting a wine importation business with me (Scarlet and I have the links back in Australia) let me know, this places desperately needs some good vino at good prices.

The simple answer is to get yourself down to the hole in the wall in Ajman. The selection there is pretty reasonable and you don't need a licence, just don't have an accident as you drive back through Sharjah sharewadi
At arrivals I think your allowance is 6 bottles, not sure how relevant that is to shipping in a wine collection. Isn't travel bad for wine anyway?

Barracuda in Umm Al Quwain seems to have a reasonable wine selection these days.

Presumably A & E and MMI are the only ones allowed to import alcohol. You'd need to find out what the story is there before doing anything else. But yes, there's bound to be a siginificant increase in demand for good wines in the next few years. XRW-147

For wine you need to head to the Baraccuda in Um Al Quain, they have just expanded it all and have a massive winery with bottles imported from all over the world. French, Californian, Chilean, Whites, Red, Roses and Champers. You can just stock up and it's dirt cheap. arniegang or my appartment, gowd knows how many trips @ 8 bottles. You can get wine everywhere .. Um Al Qwain is north of Ajman i would say two hours north of dubai if your lucky with traffic.
There are lots of wine bars here, The Agency in Emirates Towers and Madinat Jumeirah houses over 50 kinds of wine.
So yes, Liban is just trying to fend off you wine drinking non-believers away from Dubai, so all Muslims can enjoy lots of 7up and ice tea ;) silhouette

I had the right to remain silent, but I didn't have the ability to! arniegang For anyone who has "residency" and is NOT muslim, there are five outlets in Dubai when you can buy alcohol with the permit issue by the Police dept. So alcohol is no problem for expats leelola Can I stock up on wine in the airport and bring it home ? If I can't have my wine with my meal at night this might seriously affect me moving to Dubai! :P sharewadi
Yes (technically I suppose you should have a either a license or a visit visa but I've never seen that checked).
