why do you travel?

puppypup I'm agnostic but if there is a greater power then I think travel is the best way to be closer to one's creator. The universe if there is a higher power, is a god (goddess) or gods (goddesses) gift to us. I want to see the world's natural beauty. I want to see how man has created cities and unique cuisines and customs. Latin America and Australia have the best food in my experience. It's not the ethnic cuisines and gastronomy (I prefer Russian or Middle Eastern) per se but the available fresh organic ingredients. spoonman What are you looking for when you are traveling? shopping? nature? nightlife? cultures? davidofff Personaly, I travel to feel alive...I need it^^ bonk

Not shopping (can do at home - and people travel to my hometown to do just that)
Nightlife (not in the "club", "drink till you drop" sort of way - midnight is the limit while on vacation).
No beaches either (except as an incidental fringe benefit). ebonics when i travel its all on for young and old... i usually need a vacation after my overseas vacations... i did 4 countries in 2 weeks once, i think i slept a total of 5 days during that - my systems were shutting down by the end of it, but id do it all again in a heartbeat :D

Flying Dutchman I travel for business, so my perfect holiday is sitting at home for a couple of days. During my free time on trips I like to see beautifull nature and meet new interesting people. I like learning about cultures and other ways of living (old and new), but looking at old stones doesn´t do it for me. JMK most of my travels were kind of escapistic ... Raya I travel because i want to, 1) meet new people 2) eat different food 3) see other culture 4) see other nature 5) shop 6) forget all my worries saeedz28 just to eat, walk, sleep in different place than home town. spend money, buy gifts for my self :roll: farthestpoint I love to travel around to see different cultures, way of life, kind of people, social differences...the great feeling of being able to embrace, understand, appreciate and respect other culture is just one of a kind....and doing this all while having fun, mixed with feeling of mystery, knowing that you are a stranger in that place.......it's just plain pleasure at its best! I've been Heidi in Switzerland, Princess in Brunei, Parisian in Paris, Lady in the Castle in Scotland, Lovely Islander in the Philippines, Crazy Party Girl in Amsterdam....awwwwwww I want to be a real Bella in Italy next, then a mountaineer in Sri Lanka! for me traveling is a dream always

I also get insanely excited by sexy hotel rooms and high-quality complimentary toiletries. And Richard Quest on CNN. Parisienne I agree with you everyone, but I will still add something. I will admit that every country in which I was has its peculiar smell for me. Repeatedly being in one's country I smelt some smell which immediately I associated with the given state. I love this feeling :)
