Does anybody know? Shaikh Zayd Rd was blocked with cars from both ends passing the fairmont and reaching Marina. From 11pm till 1am tonight!! What WAS that mysterious & scary traffic?

apparently (well so the dude in the printing place told me) there was a burst water main or something?!

Yup, was caught up on it. Burst water main on the Dubai to Abu Dhabi side of the road, the inside lanes for a couple of miles and at its deepest point even came across all lanes.
Police, ever helpful, decided to position themselves in the left carriageway at the deepest point, meaning all the cars who'd come to the left had to go right again to get past them. Quite why there was no police before the water directing people left was beyond me.

I wonder sometimes it seems people in Dubai have the inabliltu to think for themselves ie the police men cant make a decsion of wot to do so they just do what they are told ie stand in the water
