The signposts say 100. I try to stick to 109, but taxis cruise past at 120+. Surely taxi drivers know the limit and don't really want speeding fines, so what is it?

That's why I said
in Dubai . I know you can do 140 when halfway to Abu Dhabi. I'm talking about from Trade Centre to Jebel Ali.

Trade centre to past the Marina is 100 so you can get away with just under 120. They're set at 20 kms above the limit - as far as I can tell anyway.

Ah...
I thought it was 10 kms over the limit - that's why I specified 109...

If you cross a red signal while driving on dubai roads, what is the fine? In some countries you may end up spending 48 hours in jail. How is it in Dubai?
Cheers

Fine - 800 bucks

...which is odd because the fine used to be 2000 bucks before. They made it a less serious crime now.

If you are visiting Dubai, the only thing you're allowed to drive is a rental car. In which case the rental agency has your credit card on file. I imagine nothing else happens if you split quickly.
Last week, it emerged in a court ruling that you can drive on your existing Dubai licence even if you don't have a residence visa any more. Funny the RTA never thought of that situation.

They have different sized wheels so it looks like they're going faster but speed cameras still clock them at 109.

I'm guessing you'd be charged upon returning the rental.

The norm is:
80 - under 100
100 - under 120
120 - under 140
Anywhere limited at 70 means 70.

If your coming from Trade Center to IBN speed limit is 100. first 4 cameras are so sensitive and they can catch you on 120.
If your coming from IBN to Trade center some cameras catch you at 120 and some on 140. Dont drvie over 120 from 3rd interchange towards trade center. [/color]
