What happens if I die in Dubai without a Will?

arniegang
Sorry mate this is way off and totally incorrect.
If you die "intestate" in dubai your estate does come under the rule of Sharia law for your assets in Dubai only.
This means that your Dubai assets would be distributed to your brother and sons regardless of your wife or partner (if you have one).
I have gone into this because i have considerable assets in dubai and because i am married i had to ensure they were passed to my wife in the event of my death. Please consult a local solicitor and make a will.
If you have no assets in dubai then dont worry.
Chocoholic There was an article in the paper yesterday on this topic, basically stating that unless you have a Will, all your assets and estate are frozen and distributed under Sharia Law, in which case you're wife/partner would only be entilted to one eighth of your estate, regardless of which country you come from. Therefore it is in your best interest to make a Will. walker01 I am a British expat moving to Dubai and I am very concerned that if I die my assets will be distributed in accordance with Muslim Sharia Law. This Sharia Law is very different from the law of the United Kingdom. Can anyone give me some advice or recommend a good Will writing Company that specialises British Expat Wills and is based in Dubai. ^ian^ You go to heaven. Unless you go the other way. reviewer
No, in your case since you're an expat from UK, the UK law shall take precedence over the UAE law when it comes to your will. However; it will be a different scenario if you a muslim. Chocoholic Still make a will, as I really wouldn't trust it here regardless, better safe than sorry. abarawakijess Either put everything in offshore accounts (that way you mitigate the Sharia law) or just get a will drawn up, its not that hard and it squite pain free reviewer
This should have been added:

Meaning one have an option to use his/her countries inheritance law and not automaticcally UAE law.
Taken from this..
