Clearly the forum is composed of people from all over the globe and a "Travel" forum would be a good idea. People may be travelling other that Dubai and their hometown and could share their experiences, give tips, advise, etc.

this topic shuld be at " suggestion forum" not at Dubai General forum. :wink:
I dont think íf it is good idea to have a new forum. We are not interested to read about the home towns of all members. Most people come here to seek the information about Dubai not about the rest of world.

HP thanks for making my point! I imagine that people vacation and/or travel to places other than where they are from or Dubai and they could share (or help others) when a forum member travels to a new place. For example: advise of sites, restaurants, etc. Surely there are sites for that kind of stuff but it would be best at a "Travel" forum. I imagine you have or would like to go other than your home country and/or Dubai. I imagine if you ask on the forum about most places in the globe there would be someone "who done that been there" and could answer a few inquiries. You don't have to look!

i agree. i travel a fair bit and would rather take first hand advice from someone on this forum (read into this that i trust and respect the advice of most of the contributors here), than browsing endless web pages or trying to get it from some travel guide which is only intrested in painting a rosey picture of the place.

I agree - a travel forum would be a great idea. Once people live in Dubai, they do actually travel to other places occasionally, and I would be nice to share some first-hand experiences with other people who perhaps come from that country.
Also, looking at it from another angle, what about a forum for people who are just visiting Dubai - of which there are an increasing number every year. It could be a place to discuss what to do in Dubai, where to go, what are the best night spots etc etc etc.
Oh, and I also agree - this thread should be in the suggestions forum!! :lol:

DK is quite correct. The correct forum for travel related topics would be Dubai Guide. This could be used not only for those travelling to DXB, but those going out of DXB.

Can't say I am the brightess bulb but I was looking for a "Travel Forum" and by that I meant a place where one could get some "unbaised" travel advise (at least from a commercial point of view) about places other than Dubai. I could not find any. "Dubai Guide", by definition, gives the impression that it is only about dubai.
My impression from the forum is that if I wanted to travel to UK, Romania, Canada, US, Norway, Australia, Philliphines, Hong Kong, etc. etc. I would get some "advise/tip". The topics could be "anyone been to _______' or "I was just in _____ and ______" or "Don't go to ________ because ______" . Of course people will engage in some discussion agreeing or disagreeing with the particular statements in additional to the typical comments by Jackassess.

I still stand by using the dubai guide - a forum is whatever people choose to make it. People mostly like to post in General, cos they think it wont get read otherwise . Whereas if peeps used the correct forum there would be no probs.
