Wage

sweethoneybums Would 7,000 AED be clased as a good monthly wage over there? Or something higher??? I havent got a clue... lol  :?:
arniegang Debateably survivable for a westerner - just yorky500 Doing what exactly? Will the company provide accommodation, car, etc etc. If you have a partner that is qworking as well, then it will be good, if you are on ya own, I very, very much doubt it. sweethoneybums Sorry I will start again with more information. Will 7,000 AED per month, plus travel allowance and acommodation provided be enough to live on. So is 7,000 enough for the cost of living, ie, eating out, shopping.. Not interested in saving! Just living! :) arniegang the answer then is yes sweethoneybums In that case Ill tell my cousin to move over.. :) Thanks! Defo But, if u have atleast 2 years experience AND you are from Europe AND your cousin is seeking for a job in Media City she can expect 10,000 Dhs/M atleast + acc. dbxsoul "acommodation provided..." i hate to be the fly in the ointment.... but check this out or get some clarrification from your employer before you make any decisions! in this area of the world it could mean anything from a penthouse appartment to a stable .... and in most instances it means the latter! pacificsurf619 Yea there have been more then a few 'horror' stories about company arranged living conditions. Make sure to check it out. XRW-147 And even a stable would be considered 'luxury living' in the eyes of those providing this fringe benefit.

sweethoneybums Hey, I have 10 years experience working in offices! But the package offered to me isnt 10,000 aed. I am happy with whats offered though! Greed never gets you anywhere! Its a one bedroom furnished apartment and I am coming over with my employer to see first. He also employs my mom and brother in law here in Cyprus and is a family friend so somehow I dont see him putting me up in a stable.. but if thats the case! I can always come back to Cyprus! :) sweethoneybums So are you saying that the equivalent of CYP1,000 per month in AED plus a one bedroom furnished apartment, travel allowance, a return flight home a year, plus medical coverage isnt enough? What about phone lines? is it easy to get internet access at home? Thanks everyone. Liban Its enough. You will live well and even save money. Don't listen to those that say it isn't enough... sweethoneybums Thanks for that.. I mean I just want to sure.. cause you can never be too careful these days! What about electricity bills? I hear its quite expensive! Although its just me thats going to be using it. Liban For a one bedroom, I spend 100AED/mo without airconditioning... It doubles with AC... So really cheap, especially if you are single... But looking at you, I doubt you will remain single for long :P sweethoneybums Why thank you :) Well Im looking to work, enjoy new experiences and learn about a different kind of living.. and most of all go scuba diving there! I cant wait! When does it get silly hot? And when does it get cold there?? :) XRW-147 Hang on, so is it you/your family or your cousin that's got the offer...? You mentioned you'd tell your cousin to move over and now you're the one with the offer... Just want to clarify. XRW-147
Silly hot compared to Cypris (all year round) or by Dubai standards (Jul-Sep/Oct)? sweethoneybums Now thats a secret!! :) It could be both of us coming.. it could be just me :)
XRW-147 Hahaha... abit of intrigue eh... and I thought a man of mystery was the norm. sweethoneybums Well to be honest with you I am definately coming over in May! Dunno about my cousin! But I do have a cousin that lives there already!! :) rvp_legend Guys Im British Asian, just been offered a Job in Dubai for 13000 AED per month. Considering the cost of living....Car costs etc...is that a good deal? What should a British Asian expect? Cheers guys XRW-147 Way too vague... unless you want a range of 1-1,000,000 as your reply. What about industry, profession, qualifications...? Housing included? Etc... Etc... GAB People ask "what should I expect?" but at the end of the day you've got to ask yourself if you can keep the same lifestyle you are accustomed to and still save. You will need to provide more info like XRW-147 (BTW your name is annoying to type-is it a number plate or model of your car or something?? ) medical insurance, transport, housing, utilities etc can be bigger than the actual salary. Need more info please!! XRW-147 G, u can call me X for short :P
And yeah, its all of the above - number plate of my ride back in Aust [XRW-147], XRW is my car model backwards, and 147 is my lucky number. GAB  Good-I am not sooo blonde after all!! XRW-147 U're going grey G GAB   Actually that is apparently true!!    At the moment I feel about 90!! Not bad I guess when I am actually 75. :P XRW-147 And you're proficient with internet forums etc, I'm impressed! GAB If you are going of Friday you'll larf yourself stupid-I've got the funniest story to tell you!! XRW-147 I'll be there, even have my walking stick for you if u need ;) - jokes. GAB Actually I might have to get you to help me to a chair and cut up my food for me.....do they have soup? I am not good with solids!!   And the really sad thing is I am NOT joking!! :P XRW-147 G, maybe they can blend it up and u can have it through a straw... remember when I tried that after having my wisdom teeth taken out... chicken still tastes the same whether u chew or slurp! audreygaur Sweethoneybums, You said ....not looking at saving anything....just living expenses etc and then you said scuba diving...if the next thing is going to be jet ski, parasailing, wadi bashing...every week...then watch the 7K disappear before the end of the month... Asking for a deserved salary is not greed, just being fair to yourself and others who are similary qualified....and not all of us are single without a care. rvp_legend ok ok sorry guys...my Fault I am a Business Analyst byTrade in London. I have 4 years experience, am qualified to Masters level (Enterprise systems) this offer of 13k is after providing housing in Sharjah+health insurance....... i appreciate Food And Fuel are not the same as London so....just wondering if 13k monthly was any good...... Cheers guys XRW-147 And still you're lacking info there... So no vehicle/transport allowance? If you're an analyst and a masters grad ur offer is...how should I put this? Crap. GAB Living in Sharjah means cheaper accomodation and if you are working in Dubai, what about transport?? Also travel time EVERYDAY from Sharjah, in itself, will take its toll. rvp_legend Hmmm Mr XRW - your blunt wording has had a very positive affect....
I told my potential Arab Employer that i cannot accept this offer.... and therefore have to reject this..... funnily enough... he doubled it.
And also offered an AUDI A8 as a company Car.. How furtunes change eh?
So.... now the package equals to 26k, Insurance Covered, Car, and Accom in Sharjah....
where does that leave me?
terranova that, my friend is a VERY good package. Guilo2 JUST an A8?? :o You'll enjoy Dubai, no doubt. Welcome to the desert paradise. GAB Hmmmmm..looking good!! :D XRW-147 Hahaha... blunt is best! Keep playing hardball, I smell a Porsche coming your way - the new Carrera turbo is out and damn, what a rocket! rvp_legend Haha - cheers dude.
I want to try to keep it humble....Besides... i quite like the A8...
If iwas to be picky....I would have to ask for a Mclaren Merc SLR... :-)
Dubai Here i come!
rvp_legend Hey GAB....
Sharjah will be about 1.5 hours during rush hour?
Takes me the same to get home from work in London!
so i guess its not all bad.... just looking forward to getting away from the Rain to be honest.....
Also....are there any good universities, where i can potentially do a PHD or Research Masters?
My contract is for potentially 5 years - so i will be there for a bit!
rvp_legend ;-) Thanks Guilo - looking forward to it...
Now have to break the news to my Girlfriend - who threw a party when i rejected the initial offer... DOH!
GAB I have a friend who does a school run into Dubai, so morning traffic and mid afternoon traffic-she says it is about 45 minutes? I am not overly sure as I have only been to Sharjah once and coming home in evening traffic took ages and that is reverse to what you'll be doing. Sometimes with traffic here you can actually "beat" it if you leave 10 minutes earlier! arniegang Funnily enough, Whist on balcony watch most evenings last week, i did notice the queues on the SZR was far less than normal. rvp_legend Where is a good place to buy IT hardware in Dubai? I need to setup my System for Video conf, etc ..... gonna miss the family :-) XRW-147 Plus they opened up another exit that can get you to the Marina just infront of Emirates golf course for the desert classic and they must have realized the it helped decongest the traffic so they left the exit open. XRW-147
Arnie, ever since they opened up the lanes under that new overpass before MOE there's no congestion outside the Marina. 1 hour home trip back to 20 minutes - love it! GAB All the big malls/shopping centres have electrical stores so it won't be a hassle finding anything you need here. Basically you can get everything you can possibly imagine here and probably more cheaply than you would at home. :D The only complaint I've heard is in the hardware department-window locks and screen door bolts are either hard to find or people could not get them-this is a concern for people with kids (having balconies (& living in apartments) and then pools because they are not fenced). arniegang
Nice one, i did wonder why there were no more queues arniegang XRW can you see over the road to tthe rear of yer building? Have you/did you notice that huge flood along the slip road? This was nothing to do with the rain, it appeared last tuesday, and they have built some "dams" and have you found the new mini mart shop yet lol?? XRW-147 Arnie, I'll take a gander when I'm home matey. And yes, I think i saw that shop. Its on the opposite corner and you gotta cross the road to get to it yeah? arniegang Yer you have to cross the road at the end, but be carefel mate, it was easy in my Jeep, yers is a bit lower than mine. XRW-147 Yeah, I have trouble doing a u-turn on that sand trap at the bottom there. Probably easier to walk since its just a km down the road :P arniegang I think we can only cross there at the mo because obviously the new bridge isnt finished. I wonder if we will be able to cross when its all finished. That Bridge seems to be taking forever dont you think ? XRW-147 I reckon it might be like the other bridges where we have to go all the way to the other end to u-turn at the signal. Yah, theres buildings that have come up faster than that bridge. SydGuy hi peeps, i have posted my own thread but seeing as this is a wage thread il try get some more opinions. been offered a job at the hyatt regency.assistant manager of a gym. AED3500month+commision i have accomadation,3meals a day and travel to and from work paid for.also medical.its 48hr week. im currently in london.at the end of the month my dubai wage will end up around the same as my london wage after expenses. so basically money wise..im not gaining or losing anythng. its for assiatnt manager so for me this is a good career opportunity.im 24 years old so id like to go out occasionally, clubbing or to bars.but im not a big spender and dont have expensive tastes. any thoughts would be helpful. thanks:) Esma Hi i have a question concerning the salary of receptionist. I would really like to move to Dubai, because i don’t like the Netherlands live here already 18 years and go back to Bosnia is not an option. So i want to carry on my carrier as a hotel receptionist in Dubai and see on a lot of employment centers and also on the hotel sites directly that they are offering jobs for 1500 dirham monthly plus accommodation, insurance, free meals and transportation from and to work. I thought it was ok since i heard from people here that lifestyle is not so expensive there because in Holland it is expensive for people with this kind of jobs. But then i found this forum and see that people here are not even happy with 3500 DH  My question is if somebody is not happy with 3500 why should i take a job that really only pays 1500 is it really not realistic to live ok with 1500 in Dubai???????????? GAB AED 3500 per month is not enough to live on, so no, AED1500 per month is not enough. Having said that, AED 1400 is what my maid gets and I provide all food, accom (like a unit) etc-all living expenses plus she works only 5 1/2 days. Guaranteed the jobs you are looking at will make you work a six day week with more than 12 hours a day. Also the accomodation you are talking about is bed share- ie bunk beds-as many as possible in one room. Look at the cost of living posting further down and you can get an idea of everyday expenses. fayz Syd, Esma. the reality is many people make 1500 or less and i would say the majority of DXBs population would jump at salary as high as 3500 but you also have the lucky minority who earn over 30,000 and this board has many of them. At the end of the day if you need a change/adventure, you don't mind keeping things on the "cheap" only you can decide what is enough, it sounds like both of you have all your basics covered, so maybe asking yourself after all my basics how much money do i have left and what that money can buy me in Holland or the UK is a better question. Good luck in whatever you decide, GAB AED30,000- I wish!! I think Fayz you have to compare the standard of living where someone comes from. For example, if coming from a developing country this is a huge opportunity and lifestyle will improve. For some one from a European country I think the acceptance of AED1500 will not give the same scenario. A shame to come here and find you are miserable, strapped for cash and can't get home. :) yshimy As said, some people come on 1500 and do save money.. but as GAB said, they came from Developting countries and mostly in very low wage jobs. like.... Serving Shisha. and i don't think the Cyprus lady is qualified as Shisha server.... JK. Depends would she like to share accomodation, work in no career low wage job, don't save money, hang around in very low standered places if hang around at all, so it is mainly her lifestyle. So... Up to her, in this forum alot of info about prices of living.. she got to do the math XRW-147 Yushi, we're talking about a lady from Bosnia considering a post as a receptionist. danial Waht about qualification???? GAB X- my assumption is that if she has been living in the Netherlands that she must earn relatively good money compared with her current offer- surely they have a minmum wage...maybe it is the same as here and wage varies with nationality or race. XRW-147 G, I know what you're on about. My comment was for Yushi:
Esma Hi aigan , thanks for your reactions! I live in Holland for over 18 years now so i am a dutch citizen. I make here a middle class wage thats 1700,- euro for a 5 day 8 hours per day work week. Minus all my monthly costs (living, food, bills, going out etc) i can save 300,- euro per month. So that sounds ok , i could also if i stay in Holland get a higher position in the firm i work for! But i dont like the atmosphere in Holland plus i hate the rain and i would like to start over aigan in a new country, but if i see these reactions i dont know if its worth it.... I thought that 1500 DH is the same worth there as 1700 euro here. Its a shame that frontdesk jobs there are seen as low jobs otherwise here in Holland it is seen as a good job to start your carrier in toerism. The only option for me to make the same wage as here(that would be 7500 DH) is to work here for a dutch hotel chain and hope to be transver to Dubai...(exaple:Golden Tulip) Thanks aigan for the reactions! I hope i still get the chance to work and live in Dubai for a better wage and maybe a better position....
