US Taxes and Expat Allowances.

DXBBound Hi Guys - Trying to decide on a job offer and need some help from Americans in Dubai. I know that my salary is taxed. What about all of the allowances? Are they part of my income as well, and subject to tax in the US? I have a Housing Allowance, and Education (for kids) allowance etc. This will help me decide.. Thanks!
sharewadi Probably. But you'd get a more definitive answer from the tax department. yorky500 I always thought you yanks were taxed on your Total package on anything over US$80K/year. But as suggested, go see the tax man, he will advise better. Concord Americans are the only ones taxed regardless of where the income comes from (or where you live), except for 80K (provided you live outside the USA for 330 days in a year). How else could the goverment afford to spend 1 billion dollars a week in Iraq for nothing! mraph33 Live overseas, pay nothing....that's why I do it. Here's a guide from everyone's favorite government agency, the IRS: http://www.irs.gov/publications/p54/index.html sage & onion
Serious XRW-147 Yes, if you are still considered a US resident for tax purposes the IRS will still have your balls in a vice - even if you have never lived/worked in the US. Ahh... the joys of working for a US company. mraph33 Another thing to be aware of is that if you aren't paying taxes then you aren't paying social security, which has implications as well.
