Not a huge fan of the bloke but still a good aussie personality.
Quote:
- Steve Irwin, the Australian television personality and environmentalist known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” was killed Monday by a stingray during a diving expedition, Australian media said. He was 44.
A helicopter carrying paramedics flew to the island, but he died from a stingray barb to the heart, ABC reported on its Web site.
RIP Steve.

damn was a fan of him......hope he is in better place
XRW-147
It is somewhat ironic how he's encountered some of the most dangerous animals/reptiles in the world yet gets taken out by a stingray.
Personally thought he was abit of a clown on tv but much respect to his work towards preserving nature through funding for wild life sanctuaries, sponsorships, education programs... the list goes on...

Thats sad :( i was a big fan of his, used to love his shows.

I loved the guy... So funny and one of the few persons who actually used TV as a way to educate and show us some gorgeous parts of the world...
You will be be missed Steve!

in a interview a few weeks ago Steve Irwin was aked what his favourite childrens TV program was.
He said he loved Thunderbirds but he had a special place in his heart for Stingray

I don't find this very funny.
I had the pleasure to meet Steve Irwin in the early 90's and back then he was a genuine individual that had just set up a small Crocodile Farm on the sunshine coast.
In an odd, way, this really hurts and was a downer on the day.

Aww Ian... It is sad, he was a cool dude!! I am sure there are many Aussies who took inspiratin from Steve and will follow his footsteps!
Here's hoping!

This is so sad. Steve was a great advocate of wildlife, conservation and education on the natural world.
His shows, his vitality will be missed by many around the world. I hope others continue his fantastic work.

Everyone will be able to watch him one more time because his family wants the video footage of his death to be released to the public.

Sad news that the great Croc Hunter will no more b there to show us the extreme close up shows n educate ppl. May his soul RIP. Wish the money goes to the family not to some stupid middle man or the tv channel.

He will be missed by me and my family
We learn a lot about croc and snakes from his show on animal planet. Always entertaining and always put a big smile on my daughter's face. Wife and I were thinking about visiting the zoo next time we head downunder and try to see him in person. Sigh.
Stevo Rules! Thanks for memories mate.

THE CROCODILES ARE CRYING
Endless visions fill my head - this man - as large as life
And instantly my heart mourns for his angels and his wife
Because the way I see Steve Irwin - just put everything aside
It comes back to his family - it comes back to his pride
His animals inclusive - Crikey - light the place with love!
Shine his star with everything he fought to rise above
The crazy-man of Khaki from the day he left the pouch
Living out his dream and in that classic 'Stevo' crouch
Exploding forth with character and redefining cheek
It's one thing to be honoured as a champion unique
It's one thing to have microphones and spotlight cameras shoved
It's another to be taken in and genuinely loved
But that was where he had it right - I guess he always knew
From his fathers' modest reptile park and then Australia Zoo
We cringed at times and shook our heads - but true to natures call
There was something very Irwin in the make up of us all
Yes the more I care to think of it - the more he had it right
If you're going to make a difference - make it big and make it bright!
Yes - he was a lunatic! Yes - he went head first!
But he made the world feel happy with his energetic burst
A world so large and loyal that it's hard to comprehend
I doubt we truly count the warmth until life meets an end
To count it now I say a prayer with words of inspiration
May the spotlight shine forever on his dream for conservation
...My daughter broke the news to me - my six year old in tears
It was like she'd just turned old enough to show her honest fears
I tried to make some sense of it but whilst her Dad was trying
His little girl explained it best...she said "The crocodiles are crying"
Their best mate's up in heaven now - the crocs up there are smiling!
And as sure as flowers, poems and cards and memories are piling
As sure as we'll continue with the trademarks of his spiel
Of all the tributes worthy - he was rough...but he was real
As sure as 'Crikey!' fills the sky
I think we'll miss ya Steve...goodbye

Well I just can't understand why more of them don't try to escape.
I read Papillion and there are some good tips in there about building rafts out of old coconuts etc. so it can't be too difficult to get away.

Er many people would actually like to go and live in Australia! It's not very nice to say things like that, I love the Auzzies.

Well, since Australia is probably the most beautiful country on the planet, I can understand why many of my fellow Aussies choose to live their lives there. Some of us like to see the rest of the world, some of us are content in the knowledge they already live in paradise.
Where are you from?

Obviously she doesn't want to tell you Ian as she's avoided the question a couple of times.

Don't feed the troll! Who cares about this person's view of Aussies - the thread is about Steve Irwin who DIED.
