Okay shoot me now, but I need a computer techies help for this one!
When I load up face book, it keeps giving me script errors, which means the pages don't run properly and functions don't work, like sending messages, wall posts, anything basically!
It's starting to really irritate me as it basically has rendered the programme useless to me.
I have cleared the Internet history, temp files and cookies, flushed the dns, but nothing is helping.
Any suggestions? I'm suffering withdrawl over here!

Hi Chocs, I am having same issues so most probably it's on FB's side. I think it will be sorted out soon.
From what I have seen with the occurence of these problems, as they are using more and more AJAX (behind the scene transfer of data without page refresh/alteration), there might be some issues occuring from it "behind the scene" also.
Honestly, I think they are over-AJAXing.
Jot
I'm on etisalat and I just logged onto FB but everything's fine with my side...
btw... I'm using Microsoft Internet Explorer v7
sharfraz
what browser are you using?
this will be important to sort it down fast!!!!
:?
Jot
why don't you try using firefox and see what happens... or just wait it out for a couple of minutes then clear the internet cache then visit FB again...

Just a comment, my Facebook is working fine
Chocoholic
Tried all of that! This is on my work laptop. On my personal one at home it runs fine. I have tried turning off spyware and firewalls - no good!
It did work okay for about 2 hours yesterday, but not working today.
sage & onion
Maybe your company has installed a firewall
Chocoholic
Oh and FYI, no one else in the office has an issue. So it's either something on my laptop or my actual FB page.
Jot
hmmm... do you have 3rd party apps installed on your browser?!?? try resetting your browser on default settings...

Mine's a bit different, it works at times, and you encounter scriptiong errors at times. At home or in the office, same same.

Ok!!!!
go to internet options in your control panel and move to advanced tab and click restore advanced settings button then try FB and if still not then, in general tab of internet options click settings button under browsing history and check the option everytime i visit the webpage and for the disk space to use keep 8, then try FB now, if still not again then try updating to the latest version and try FB.. this may solve the issues....
PS: If you're using IE!!!!!!!!

but the odd part is a day before FB was accessible using the same laptop along with the same browser settings!?
have you tried visiting other websites that has heavy scripting apps featured??
Chocoholic
Done all that! No change, still doesn't work!
Also my MSN Messenger just decides to boot me off, and refuses to sign back in again!
Jot
and your the only one in your office experiencing this problems right now ?!?

Tried using Firefox - still doesn't work. Same issues.
Trying to get updates for explorer but it's taking ages.
Yes, I am the only one with these issues, so there has to be a problem with my laptop or FB itself!
Chocoholic
AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Nothing works!!!!!
sharfraz
try using this browser then!!!!
give it a try!!!!!

Chocoholic
Can't. Software upgrades and add ons have to be done by IT.
They just upgraded me to Explorer 7. Guess what? Still no change!
farthestpoint
...in relation to the topic, developers are having issues as well.
Chocoholic
But how come it still works from home, and even the guy sitting next to me is having no issues!
sharfraz
upgrade it to IE 8 and restart your laptop then give it a try!!!!!

AJAX is good, but too much of it? No, thank you. Irritating.
QUOTE (An excerpt)
Here's a piece of advice for those who prefer reading millions of bytes of Facebook musings to fine literature: Facebook said was still trying to decide how to handle the issue of archived "Soundboard" messages. (Right now, only the most recent 20 one-liners appear to be accessible at any given time.) Pride and Prejudice, however, remains available at your local bookseller or library.
CNET 's Declan McCullagh contributed to this report.

It's very difficult to explain it without covering several pages of this board...but it's something like when you send an sms over new year and it doesn't go because of network overload, sometimes it's first come first serve...well the difference is, mobile tells you message unsent or network is busy. With AJAX that works behind the scene, the message is behind the scene as well when problems occur.
However, this is just one angle of the story. It might be possible that your problem doesn't have any relation with this at all.
By the process of elimination in my FB problem case, it is definite that my scenario is caused by this.
Chocoholic
FP, I'm sorry but I didn't understand any of that.
The problem is PHP script errors! It is in ONLY on my laptop! So clearly I need some sort of software upgrade or something to fix the PHP response errors.
So I have found nothing on the net that can help and no-one else seems to have a clue.
farthestpoint
Hi Chocs,
Try this page
This page uses PHP & AJAX. Navigate by clicking "Next Product" button
If it doesn't work....we can therefore conclude.
Chocoholic
Nope, that works fine! It's not FB, because I hopped onto my work mates PC and it works fine!
It's my piece of shit laptop!
farthestpoint
I think you might have a conflict with some Add-Ons in your laptop.
Sorry, I couldn't help much. It's difficult when we can't touch anything.

Last try:
Run your IE without Add-Ons.
Not sure what you are using but you can navigate help (F1) and search "internet explorer without Add-Ons"
Below if you are using a Vista (To temporarily disable all add-ons):
To temporarily disable all add-ons
Click the Start button , click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
How can I re-enable a browser add-on?
You might want to re-enable a browser add-on if you disabled an add-on but want to go to a site that requires it, or if disabling the add-on caused general display problems with webpages or Internet Explorer.
To re-enable an add-on
Click to open Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools button, click Manage Add-ons, and then click Enable or Disable Add-ons.
In the Show list, click Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer to display all add-ons.
Click the add-on you want to enable, and then click Enable.
Repeat step 4 for every add-on you want to enable. When you are finished, click OK.
Chocoholic
Noe, still doesn't work! I give up.
Chocoholic
Okay, now here's the pisser. I'm on my work laptop connected to my wireless at home and guess what? It's working - has to be something on the server then - bloody IT!

are they only blocking for ya at your work!!!!!!?
:?
Chocoholic
It's weird, everyone else seems to be able to use it at work. Humph
farthestpoint
Weird. It doesn't make sense at all because you are able to access FB at work (therefore your IT did not block your access) & all others could run FB without problems (meaning, FB actually runs properly in your server)
Try again tomorrow in your office connection.
I'm left with very few cases to blame if I'm in your situation because we almost eliminated most of it.

Looks like they got you behind some kind of firewall, do you have a friend in IT?
alucard
hi choco :) have you tried enabling javascript? hope this helps .. :)
Chocoholic
I assume that it already is enabled. But please tell me where to find it so I can check!
farthestpoint
Javascript is definitely working on your end because the page you tried yesterday is using javascript as well.
Anyhow, try CTRL+F5 to refresh the page.
This issue is most probably on the server-side of the site/page you are visiting.
Moreover, try removing the FB apps you might have added since the last time that it was working properly.
This might be the case as well.
Chocoholic
Thanks guys for all your suggestions! I've fixed it!!!!! I basically went to the security section in Internet Options - custom level and enabled ALL the scripts and prompts - bingo!
farthestpoint
Be careful chocs, this is dangerous.
Your computer will be exposed to a lot of viruses & trojans.
Just a word of advise.
Regards & mabrook.
Chocoholic
Well okay, it was specifically the activex controls that needed to be on. FB uses these alot.
We'll see what happens when I shut down and reboot tomorrow, if it all gets reset.
farthestpoint
QUOTE
ActiveX controls and web browser add-ons are small programs that are used extensively on the Internet. They can make browsing more enjoyable by providing toolbars, stock tickers, video, animated content, and more. These programs can malfunction, however, or give you content you don't want. In some cases, these programs can be used to collect information from your computer in ways you might not approve of, possibly damage information on your computer, install software on your computer without your consent, or allow someone else to control your computer remotely. Given these risks, you should only install ActiveX controls or add-ons if you completely trust the publisher and the website offering it.

Its hit and miss though hun really isn't it. Yes it makes it work, but it could screw my laptop. However it's the only thing that is makign it work at this point. The IT guys don't have a clue, they keep telling me the anti-virus is blocking certain scripts, yet this only appears to be happening on my device.
Oh well.
farthestpoint
...yup...not only that, if you are in a network, you might infect all others connected to the same if ever you catch a really strong virus/trojan.
quatroporte
If your FB is not working on Firefox as well then its not an ActiveX issue... because Firefox doesn't have ActiveX in the first place!!!
it could be your java library being corrupted!!! try re-installing your java libraries and try again!!!
Chocoholic
Well interesting, but now I have enabled all the script error prompts, FB is throwing up tonnes of them! Loads of syntax errors.
farthestpoint
hehe :)

Beginning to think the website is buggered and googling the issue, it seems that many other people are facing the same issues.
Bloody computers and websites - ah where are the days before we had it all!

glad you solved it..
but if you happen to face it again, or with any site that includes a log on process, set your internet explorer options to accept all coookies..
