sometimes making noise helps

netgeek2k2 I have been applying to different recruitment firms in the DUBAI area for a while.. and have not recieved even a REJECTION EMAIL from them.. when i called those people up to follow up i was very rudely treated by the Rectruitment people there. So, I found their corporate website and shot off a pretty nasty email to the SUPPORT people there.. GUESS WHAT!!! I got a call back within a few minutes from the MD who ACTUALLY READ MY RESUME and saw my qualifications etc. He has promised me some action within the next week or so.. I do have my fingers crossed GUESS SOMETIMES making noise does work..
English Girlie Pretty crap isn't it!! :? English Girlie I'm having a similar problem! I don't want to blow my own trumpet, but I have a strong CV and have NEVER had a problem finding work in the UK. I have registered with many recruitment consultancies and applied for many jobs that fit me to a tee! and like you haven't heard hardly anything, not even a 'thanks but no thanks'! I too contacted the owner of one agency and low and behold have been assigned an agent who phoned me and has put me forward for a couple of appropriate jobs! My background is sales and marketing and would love to get my teeth into a recruitment consultancy and make it a brand leader in the UAE. Based on my experience, and yours it would seem wouldn't take much to grow their businesses! We are their customers, the way they earn money, surely we should be treated alittle better than this! :? Keep in touch, let me know how you go! GOOD LUCK! netgeek2k2 Girlie, hey you can blow your own trumpet all you want. :-) thats cool. Me too have a very very strong RESUME and never had a problem with finding a job in the USA.. For personal reasons I came back to Pakistan after 25 years there in the USA and now want to stay on this side of the ATLANTIC. I have 5 Degrees (including a Masters in CS and an MBA from PRINCETON).. 20 years of IT exerience but seems like NO ONE IS EVEN LOOKING AT THE RESUME here. i did send you a PM if you would like to chat and exchange notes and see if we can help each other out.. Regards, netgeek2k2 oh by the way ... update on my making noise!! yes i did get those calls .. and yes the guy sounded very positive .. but till now nothing has happened... the guy disappeared and has not replied to my emails. Guess .. it was not that good :-( dbxsoul netgeek2k2 & English Girlie on the issue of people not getting back to you, one hard and fast lesson on working in the gulf is never expect people to return your calls, especially if it's bad news. from my experience with the arabic culture it is impolite to refuse someone something or to say no; this spills over into the business world, where if there is a negative awnser they will simply not reply to your mails or return your calls - ulimatley you give up and go away, and they have saved face by not having to decline your request. the down side to this is it is very frustrating to a "westerner" and even what we may consider impolite, on the phone they may be positive, but put you off a day or a week with an excuse, the process is then repeated again and again.. until you are worn down and leave it alone... the easiest way to deal with this is to call it a day after the third attempt, if nothing has happened by then it won't... ultimately if they do call you back at a later stage it's then on your terms! sometimes it has more to do with business tactics on behalf of a employer... when they can hear the desperation in your voice they know that you are more likily to strike a more favourable (to them) employment deal  as i said this is from my experience, i don't claim to be an expert on arabic culture, but i'm sure the majority of long time gulf expats will agree. English Girlie Valuable advice... THANK YOU! Your theory was infact proven today! I applied for a position with an agency. They phoned me and we talked at length about my application. Then heard nothing for (i think) two weeks so, emailed once and called twice! Heard nothing! That was about 6 weeks ago today I got an email asking me to call tomorrow. To discuss my application further! I am guessing this is good news, but who knows. Keep my cool, be positive! THANKS AGAIN :D Jeevan People here usually dont call to give bad news, they will only call if they have good news. loads of applications and then patience helps in securing a job in dubai if you have the qualifications. There have been times when i got a call that i have been selected after a year of giving the interview  netgeek2k2
Seems like I will have to get used to this :-)
Jeevan, thanks for the words of encourgement... Oh I do have the qualifications :-) lets see if i do get some responses soon. :-)
Regards, English Girlie
Come on, Netgeek, we are going to make this happen!!!! Looking forward to the Champagne!!
