Arriving in Dubai in January and just wondering if there are any good spots for expats to socialise - where are the hot spots and good places to go!!! :?:
oh, and where are the places NOT to go!!!
thanks all
Captain Australia
One place to go to, one place not to go to.
The Barasti in the Le Meridien Mina Seyahi is a good bar. It's always choc full of expats and has a good atmosphere.
---
The Rattlesnake in the Metropolitan Hotel is also full of expat workers. Usually from China and Russia though.

Barasti is being closed down next year unfortunately...
The new venue of choice is yet to be decided. Left Bank at the new Souk Al Baraha in the Old Town, Burj Dubai is rammed already. There are some new places opening there soon.
Any of the bars at Madinat Jumeirah such as Left Bank, Trader Vics, BarZar and JamBase are OK.
For meeting interesting ladies with interesting diseases, try the bar on the 1st floor at the York International!

Unfortunately yes. Same as Trilogy, the owners feel that there is too much aggro and bad publicity associated with the rowdier element of the drinking classes. Nothing to do with the wheelbarrows full of money it makes every weekend.

I am checking the veracity of this devastating information as so many committed alcoholics and social butterflies have been threatening to commit Sepukku upon hearing the news...

I have heard of Barasti among a few friends already in Dubai - not sure if they know its closing though - when is this scheduled for?
Ive been to Trader Vics in Bahrain but its more of a place where you would go to eat!
tridxb
Yup Trader Vics is better for eating but their cocktails are wicked! Plus down at the Madinat the views are nice.
What's the story with Barasti closing down????
I would avoid most bars in Bur Dubai, past Bank street - all around the York. It might be good for a laugh when you've been here a little while but otherwise they are just ewwww
yshimy
Well socializing in dubai is easy, yet tricky.
Everyone here is an expat.... more or less.
Well, I'm a big fan of barasti, don't know about it closing though.
Depends on where you are from and who you want to socialize with also there are plenty of places.
I do also alot of socializing in shisha places. but this is mainly for non local arabs but you can also meet other nationalities.
Irish village is a very nice place too, Also wafi rooftop on friday nights. "depending on the weather"
Some bars are nice. despite that some don't like the bur dubai bars, but some of them are still decent with nice crowd. not as posh and high class like the new dubai area, but still nice people and not all of them are cheesy.
just arrive and you will find your way and what you like.

Barasti is not closing, it's all good! No worries or need to panic.

I was just there with my Dad having a beer and the guy behind the counter said that it was not going to close.
But he did say that it would be closed this Sunday.

That place must be a license to print money. Every night it's packed with punters. They'd have to be mad to close it, even for a little while.

Any working girls ? if so, what nationalities ?
Captain Australia
No working girls at Barasti you horny f*ck.

Hahahahahahah.
Are Indians allowed in establishments such as Barasti ? if so, are they served last and made to wait ?
Captain Australia
The descrimination is limited to the poor. They might think you are poor because you are Indian, but if you are dressed nicely and speak english well then you will have no problems I suspect.
I'm not defending the terrible discrimination that happens here by the way, but is it all designed to keep the poor out of the way of the rich. I have a few Indian friends who are from the west and relatively rich and they enjoy the same lifestyle as I do.
