What they fail to mention is the smell of stale beer that the taxi drivers are so kind to share with the passenger everytime they open their mouth. On the rare occasion that I use a taxi and get one of those drivers, I want to roll the window down and heave!!!
They should add breath mints to the handouts because a spritzer of air spray isn't going to do it.
Actually, many companies do provide programs for hygienic care. Unfortunately some of those who attend probably don't think it applies to them, so continue with the hygienic, or lack there of, ways that they know.

I was laughing last thursday night when i heard in the news regarding this issue of smelly taxicabs, maybe because it's unordinary to hear that kind of news but unfortunately it is really an important and major issue to be face her in UAE. So, after that news in radio it is now being posted in different UAE newspaper.
"All taxis in Dubai are now fitted with a deodorant in a bid to improve customer satisfaction after reports of “smelly taxicabs”." from
"The Dubai government has declared to war on “smelly” taxis by handing out over 3,500 air fresheners to drivers." from
But, do u think it is enough that the DTC are now putting air freshener in each taxi?
For me, it is better if they just conduct a training or seminar for proper hygeine for all taxi drivers and maybe instead of air freshener issue or give them deodorant.

The cab companies should install a transparent barrier thing like in ny cabs. Its safe as well.

Hmmmm air freshners don't tackle the underlying hygiene issue though do they.
People forget that it's lack of washing/bathing/showering and not using deodorants that cause these problems. Sweat in iteself does not smell, it's when it comes into contact with bacteria on the skin that smells are produced.
If they're doing a 12 hour shift, a couple of changes of shirt maybe too?
The partition is a good idea, until there's four of you and you have to draw straws as to who is going to sit in the front!

But havent you heard of cases where ladies sitting at the front were touched or even groped by the cabbies? A partition will server two purposes. Even in UK they have these transparent partitions...

I think they dont take a bath everyday... yuks... no mater how many shirts they change they will still smell the same and as bora said they have horrible bad breath as well...

Correct me if I'm wrong but as a general rule here women don't sit in the front of a cab.
Also please note the sarcastic tone - wasn't a serious comment!

1) Take two pine air fresheners (the kinds you hand from the rear view mirror).
2) Place one air freshener under each of the drivers arms.
3) Sit in the back and marvel at the Doc's brilliance.

How about a cab driver who takes his left foot off his shoe and then put it up in his seat! WTF!?!?!
Seriously, i've experienced it once and told him off and i've seen lots already in other private cars with their passengers feet up in the dashboard.

It's not about having your nose held high RB, it's about common decency, basic hygiene practices and being clean.
Seeing as you protest so much, I'm getting the feeling that YOU might be one of the great unwashed!

if you are really fussy about smelly cab drivers heres what i suggest you do.
Take a freshner and attach a skicky tape to it. then stick that freshner right between your upper lip and your nose.
just breathe in and out, sit back and enjoy the ride. and you dont need to complain about smelly cab drivers any more. Also next time you come across smelly people in the lifts, you wont have to sit there on the net and complain to 7days about smelly people in the lifts of dubai :D

dubai smelly taxis are not a HUGE issue. if someones smell affects ya just put your hands in front of the nose instead of coming on a forum and try to make a big fuss about it ;)
honey some women get turned on by smelly guys ;)
