Hi
I have been shortlised for a job in Dubai and wanted to know about others peoples experiences in living in Dubai. I am a 30 year old single female from Austrlasia and have no idea what I would expect in Dubai.
What sort of salary would give me a good standard of living (and be able to save) I wont have to pay accommodation.
Is it easy to meet people in Dubai?
Will I need to get a car or is public transport ok? How much would a car cost.
Any any advice from anyone out there?

Australasia? - I've only ever heard this term used to represent a "region" so guessing u're kiwi then?
Search of the help forums will give you good background info on pretty much all of what u want to know.
But in short:
Salary - depends what standard of living you're used to, hard to comment without knowing this.
People - easy to meet, but like anywhere else in the world, good friends are hard to find.
Car - Unless ur next career change is camel jockey or marathon runner, get a car. Around 20-30% cheaper than Australia/NZ.

hrmmz...
sounds like shortlisted for Emirates :). Accommodatio-wise don't worry about it. And I would recommend that you save up for about 6 months before you buy a car. And money-wise, it all depends on your spending pattern. But if you're a lady, I guess there will be lots of guys who will be subsidising for you :)

XRW-147, Australasia is a term used to include Aus/NZ and nearby Pacific Ocean islands. (see map on link below)
The problem is only countries in that group call it Australasia. More generally we are grouped as Oceania or in the South-East Asian group.
Back to th OP, kiwi I recently had to make the decision myself. Search around this forum and you will have all the information you need to make up your mind.
If you really really can't decide, spend the $5K and fly out for a couple of days.
Just think of it as an adventure

Scars, what do you think a region is?
Never heard of Australians or Kiwis being classed as South East Asians neither. Did you fail geography?
