Public display of affection

tomtom69l7 Im travelling to Dubai soon and I plan on living there for about 6 months. I am from the US and I am not exteamlly familar with Dubai law. Would it be illegal to show affection in public with a girl. ie. kissing, holding hands, ext.
asc_26
ILLEGAL! PDA is allowed only if all our eyes & police eyes are close. Americans can be dumb-azz at times. Chocoholic Well no asc, I'd have to disagree with you on that. Holding hands is ok, I;even see many locals holding hands in public now, and local guys with girls of other nationalities. However anything else is frowned upon. asc_26
He mentioned kissing. Chocoholic Well yes, sucking each others faces off in public is a big no no. Nick81 "Sir it's not allowed" It's not even kissing. HUGGING in a frickin nightclub is frowned upon. I seriously can't promise I won't murder the next person that gives me crap like this again. I mean we're not in the streets, we're not in a mall, we're in a FRICKIN nightclub. There're people dirty dancing everywhere and I am hugging my girl and one of the bouncers come and taps me on the shoulder and tells me it's not allowed  So much hypocricy in this country... I used to find it funny but it's getting more irritating every day now... tomtom69l7 ILLEGAL! PDA is allowed only if all our eyes & police eyes are close. Americans can be dumb-azz at times.
And so can people from every country. Americans are not dumber then anyone else in the world. If you think so, then you have alot to think about. Chocoholic Tom, sad to say that the general impression most Americans give to others is that they are a little on the dim side. sauron Don't worry about her - she can be a bit ascerbic. I'd give you a hug - but it's not allowed :( :D jabbajabba Me and my missus hold hands and we walk past locals holding hands as well. To be honest I am not into full on face sucking in public so it suits me ok and i thinks its a good balance out here. I was in Germany last week waiting for my flight back - to ageing hippies were going at it tounges and all. I really wanted to say 'ffs, folks - i don't really want to have to watch you doing that whilst I try to eat my sandwich'.

Nick81 good job, now you guys turned the thread into another US vs World debate.... *sigh* It's pointless, you're all dumbasses. The Lebanese own you all. 8) Chocoholic Ehehehe, nice one Nick. I think it's quite nice to see couples holding hands, but I have to agree, it's not nice to see people going at it. Nick81
Why thank you Chocs
But I am getting freaked now. You're all weirdos in here. First the thread about jellyfish that turned into a fetish fest and now people showing voyeuristic tendencies! Remind me not to go out with you guys! Wouldn't want you studying my every moves when I am with my girl!  tomtom69l7 Like how much trouble would I get in if I was caught kissing in public? Im sure theres a big fine or something involved. Hopefully the cops there arnt dicks and give fines for stupid stuff like that. kensus Since the question is about visiting Dubai and being familiar with the local laws... A young girl was recently fined Dhs. 1500 (approximately US$ 400) for illegally spending some time in the car of her "unrelated" male friend who faced the same situation and fine. Such a crime is identified as khulwa. The Ajman Sharia Court of First Instance fined the two of them for their actions which are punishable by law in UAE. The court considered them at fault when they stayed in a private place together without being "religiously related". Nick81
Don't take any chances that's my advice to you. We've had Emiratis stare at us just because we looked "close" to each other while walking in a mall or maybe me rubbing her shoulder which is of course something highly obscene to do in public. So yeah, do NOT kiss your girl in public. In a club as long as you don't deal with retarded bouncers you'll be fine but don't do anything in the streets, restaurants, malls etc... tomtom69l7
Jesus Christ! And I thought my $300 ticket from Maryland State Police for getting caught reciving road head was bad! Chocoholic Well to be honest that post just confused the issue, as the topic is on Dubai, and you talked about Ajman, which is far stricter than Dubai. Many of the other Emirates prosecute under Sharia Law, but it doesn't always happen that way in Dubai. Basic rule of thumb, be aware of what is locally acceptable and what is not and have respect for the local cultures. Dubai is far more liberal than many of the other Emirates, example it's frowned upon to wear short shorts in Sharjah. So you know do a bit of research. Nick the reason the bouncers are getting heavy in the clubs, is that CID are now patrolling them on a regular basis and coming down heavy on people 'getting off' around the places. Nick81
Just FYI, Tom, laws vary in each Emirate. This example given by kensus obviously happened in Ajman. The situation could be very different if it occured in Dubai. The one place you don't want to get caught it, is Sharjah...
Nick81
Damn you beat me to it Chocs
And yeah I know that... Same thing kinda happened in Lebanon too. But it IS a pain when you have a guy basically following you everywhere in the club and checking your every move. Last week we went to Chi and there were bouncers every 10 meters in the club! NOT fun. They'd walk right in the middle of the dance floor and made everyone uncomfortable... tomtom69l7 Im just worried because ive lived here in America my whole life and Im so used to the way things are done over here. I live in a fairly rural area but im olny like 45 min away from Washington, DC, and I am used to a more rural like life sytle. I hunt, shoot guns, target practice, go messin around with the girls, play video games, kyack, all that stuff. Im just worried that I will not be able to get away with as much as I do in America and that there are no protected rights (ie. freedom of speech, press, religion, right to a fair trial.) Myby Im just a little to worried though. Concord
Maybe you should stay home. Buy yourself a six pack of "Shaefer" beer and shoot the cans up! Be careful not to hit any of the plastic flamingos or the astroturf.
Anyways, I think you are making the whole stuff up! No one as dumb as you protray yourself would even think of coming to Dubai. For starterters; would have no idea what it is, where it is, or why one comes here! tomtom69l7 Oh yea everyone in America who lives in the country lives in a trailer. We shoot everything we see in our yard. We hate every race religion, drink shaffer, or bud. Thats all we do. No theres no chance that someone who lives in the country could be well educated and have graduated with a 3.8 GPA and an SAT score of 2200. Theres no chance that anyone in rural america lives in a nice big single family house with 400acres of property and a house in the Florida keys. No theres no chance of that. God I love sterotypes! tomtom69l7 Maybe you should stay home. Buy yourself a six pack of "Shaefer" beer and shoot the cans up! Be careful not to hit any of the plastic flamingos or the astroturf.

Shouldn't you be in bed at 3:32 a.m. on a Monday morning? tomtom69l7 Shouldn't you be in bed at 3:32 a.m. on a Monday morning?
What the hell is your problem man? I was asking a fairly simple question and now you have to be a dick about it. sauron Some of us old-timers should remember that certain things have become second nature to us. Nice welcome for a noobie, huh? Blast him not only for his question, but for his nationality. No wonder so many of them, these days, get off on the wrong foot. Jeevan a lot of misinterpretation and selective reading, based on our own perceptions is leading to this . well i guess most of us need a time off lol  HP Dubai law of kissing control:
Act 1973 issued by Sheikh HP
...........................
act a=) All kind of kissing (french , mouth to mouth ) are forbidden by ministry of sex control until and unless specified. This law doesnt apply to arab men when they kiss their friends on cheek.
act b =) get a room fuckersssss :P
act c=) Holding hand is not allowed until and unless u dont have trust on your partner.
act d =) Eating banana at public place is not allowed .
act e=) s.e.x on the back seat of car is not allowed .
act f= Russian prostitutes are allowed in order to restore the sustaining economoy of Russia :=) Chocoholic
What the hell is your problem man? I was asking a fairly simple question and now you have to be a banana about it.
ahahahahahahah - be a banana, laughed my arse off shahahahahahahahaha! gtmash
They changed SAT scoring? Last I did it, the max was 1600. By the way, people don't study at American Uni in Dubai. It's a place for rich people to buy degrees (ask anyone in there). You'll have better luck at American Uni of Sharjah at an education, even for a semester. Somehow, colleges in Sharjah are immune to the decency laws of the city too. Outside the college, Sheikh HP's laws apply. tomtom69l7 They completly changed the SAT. The max is now 2400 and there is now a long essay in it. It is so much harder now then before. Now everyone in America also has to take a the damn ACT test. You have to love Bush's no child left behind act. Nothing but testing and more testing now! Im not really going to Dubai to study. I am going to major in Civil Engineering and were going there to do some internship with some company there. The name has just left my mind. There are 5 of us from the university of Maryland comming down there. Im really looking foward to it. alexandra
good luck to u. M! cu tomtom69l7 I hate pres. Bush. I think he has got to be one of the worst presidents in US history! In fact Bush's approval rating in America has dropped below 30%! Not too many Americans really like him anymore. Some of us regret ever supporting Bush. I cant wait for 2008! I think I want Obama or Guliani for pres. alexandra
not everyone voted for bush ( at least this is what i would like to think)
so it;s not fair to judge them all based on that.
but to vote for bush---who is the perfect image of ignorance and stupidity---means u r a retard &a dumb@$$ tomtom69l7
I totally agree. But there is one thing I like about our pres. He shows that retarded people can truly have ANY government job. I now know that ANYONE can be pres of the most powerful nation in the world. Its a little bit scary! alexandra
1) and u like that???
2) no ofense-- i dont think ur country is the most powerfull in the world.while America is busy playing the part of "WE RULE" the world ruining it;s economy with wars and S>H>I>T, other nations make greater progress. tomtom69l7 I was being sarcastic when I said I liked that about pres. Bush. I hate Bush with a passion. And yes America is still the superpower. We still have the highest GDP, a military that is capable of being deployed anywhere around the world, a projection of force unmatched by any nation, the most wide spread culture throught the world. Everywhere in the world you go you see American named brand products, American TV shows and movies. I know that China and India have made significant progress toward becomming a superpower but they are far from it. Both nations have a significant portion of there population living in severe poverty. The gov't of China is a communist dictatorship that treats its people like crap. Neither country is capable of defending itself outside of there own boarders. The European Union is also far from being a superpower. The may have a very high GDP and strong currency, but there is not much unity between many of the member nations. Especially between Eastern and Western Europe. The only nation in the world that even comes close to the force projection of the US is the UK and the commenwealth nations. However, I do understand why people think China, the EU, or India is a superpower. They are NOT and it is just a big media hype about them being a superpower. If you want real news, do not listen to CNN, FOX, MSNBC, or BBC. They put a huge spin on things. They are there to sell a story not tell you the truth! alexandra
oh sarcasm lol i thought u really mean that!
no one can deny that America is a superpower but also no one can deny that thanks to the president u passionately hate the image of ur country in the world has been seriously damaged. dont get me wrong, i am from eastern europe and after many years of comunism and dictatorship ppl in my country started to see America as a role model, as a resort...there r things about ur country, some values that r still appreciated yet some actions of ur gov. represent a threat to any citizen of this world who loves peace but most of all: the country that was once admired and respected is now dissed and it''s government reproved on the international political scene...and that is the first step to isolation which is not a matter to be neglected----not even for a superpower
 alexandra thred hijacked  let's go back to the topic HP I do understand that US is the home of lot of big companies but one shuldnt deny the fact that the foreign policy of US is based on "Might is right".
The reason why does US have big army?
Let me explain why do ppl join the army :
1=) They cant afford higher education
2=) Most of the other professions need "Brain" and "intelligence". Army guys dont need a brian , all the need is "abu ghraib jail" and some fun :=). HP
The poor in your country live in US army  I dont need to tell they enjoy in afghanistan or Iraq :P tomtom69l7 The poor in your country live in US army  I dont need to tell they enjoy in afghanistan or Iraq :P
The US Army is the highest paying army in the world. Comparitively, US soldiers are by no means poor. Name me one nation in this world where an army is made up of a bunch of rich boys. gtmash
UAE
(compared to USA) cleotrio
   It's true isn't it? asc_26
NOPE! bushra21
hahaha, so true. St.Lucifer
I really dont think u'd have much of problems..unless you think of continuing the same life style that's said to be followed back home.
I guess most of us in here'v given a rather dreadful picture of Dubai. No guns, no PDL & A no messin with girls.. n most of it all just know that this is just another place on earth. Dont look into middle east with the stereotypic eyes.. Its no taliban thats rulin this place..
I guess it wouldnt be different from any place if u think before u act..
Enjoy yoa stay.
