Plastic Scouring Pads?


fayz Hi all,
has anyone seen these for sale anywhere in Dubai? I've gone to about 10 grocery stores but yet to find them.

lol, I was thinking for the next DF meet we could have a scavenger hunt and this would be an item on the list.

Well it started out as just going to a store, CoOp actually :) and trying to pick some up just to do the dishes with, Now it’s more of a mission as anywhere else in the world these are very common.

But this doesn't solve Fayz's long term problem - a lack of life-saving plastic scouring pads! Your airlift will only paper over the cracks - we need to come up with a long term solution that is both sustainable and economic. audreygaur Fayz....don't you like the sponge pads....you get the green scouring pads seperately also in all supermarkets...They work very well with liquid dishwashing liquid. Even better, i.e. what I find best to do dishes a brush with a long handle....it is less yucky.
No one uses the ones you are looking for these days - I think they are available in that shop in Lamcy where everything is for 5 dirhams.

It is based on Fayz being a "normal" Dubai resident. And I believe there are about a million people living in Dubai (for the sake of arguments, we'll say there are!!). Now, Fayz is so far the only member of this forum to admit to having a plastic scouring pad addiction. There are currently 5324 members - so he is one in 5324. If we assume this is an accurate sample, this means that there are 188 people in Dubai desperate to get their hands on some plastic scouring pads! There has to be enough demand there surely? I strongly suspect that despite some of the banter, their are people both inside and outside of the forum secretly cheering that Fayz has brought this to the world's attention. That would be brill if you could Zoots. I was thinking of booking the presentation night for "Scourers R' Us" at the Burj Al Arab". If we had the Spread Sheets and Graphs done in the same pastel colours, we could extend it to our corporate image.
And heres the really cool bit. We could ask the management at the Burj to display the outside lighting to match the same colours also. the_zooter I wonder if we could entice people on the forum to tell us there dish washing horror stories, then try to show how much easier they would find life if they had some quality, chinese made, plastic scouring pads. We've got to think about equal opportunities you know. It should be Fayz that is doing the dishes, with Geri asking him how he gets them so clean etc.... Concord Amazing Idea and after an initial airlift you can build your own factory in Dubai. Labor is cheap and there is lot of construction equipment around which you guys could rent for cheap. Think about it: it would be the cleanest factory around and you will be saying on jet fuel for all those air lifts which you no longer would need to make! I'll be interesed in purchasing a few shares myself (let me know in advance of the IPO - as a fellow DFer). You may be right though - no need for a business plan - this thread is more than proof that:
a) A market exists for the product
b) We have done extensive research into the potential market
c) The zimbabwean dollar is by far the most stable currency for us to trade under

I think they are trying to put us off. arniegang OK news from the bank, a minor problem. Apparently if we want enough Scourers' to meet the expected demand, we are going to need at least 5 fully loaded container ships of Zimbabwee dollars to pay for them. I will equire to Jebel Ali Free Port Authority to see if we can reserve the "whole port" for 3 months. This could be a problem as nothing else could be shipped into the Emirates during this period. This could cause severe food and other essential's shortages. I doubt whether Burger king or Mcdonalds would accept this. the_zooter Sometimes, we all have to make sacrifices for a greater good - and surely just seeing the delight on Fayz's face and his fellow sufferers, means that its a sacrifice worth taking. That money is going to take some serious counting though! I'll have to see if I can get hold of one of those little rubber thimble things you put on the end of your finger! I have been online and logged onto the RAC and AA routefinder. I keyed in a road route from zimbabwee to the UAE. The only practicable route was via Paris going south on the Champs Ellesse. I then calculated the number of 40 tons Artics to carry the cash and it would mean a tailback of traffic from the SZR to Paris. I contacted Dubai Traffic Dept and they estimate the congestion would mean it would take 9 days to travel from Dubai To Sharja. This could cause a big problem on launch day. However the good news is that the Dubai Traffic Dept are interest in us supply their patrol cars with Scourer's. Apparently they are currently undergoing a feasability study to encourage all Police Cars to have the cleanest "windscreen" in the Emirates. They think our scourer's will do the job. fayz

We should concentrate on ensuring the counting of the money is done on time and also ensure that we get a suitable on-screen wife for Fayz's infomercial. DK can sort the traffic problems as part of his event management duties. the_zooter

"Scouring Man" doesn't need to be just one colour - Each Scouring Pad Color = a different Color Scouring Man. I say Scouring Man should be placed no less apart than every 1/2 Kilometer on SZR. We have been using this thread to firstly ascertain whether PSP's are available anywhere in Dubai, and then when it was discovered that they are not (EJ's accusation that they are available via her maid were never proven), we discussed how we could solve Fayz's looming PSP crisis, and that he surely can't be the only person in Dubai that is desperate to find some!!
Unfortunately, I can't divulge anymore info than that, other than the DFM are on the case and it is hoped that Dubai will soon be swamped with quality PSP's at an affordable price - and only those supplied by the DFM's authorised distributors are the genuine article, as endorsed by Fayz himself. Central bank governor Gideon Gono said Zimbabweans had three weeks to exchange existing banknotes for a new series being issued from this Tuesday. Mr Gono said people had experienced enormous inconvenience because of banknotes with too many zeros. Mr Gono also announced what amounted to a 60% devaluation of the currency. The new official exchange rate will be 250 Zimbabwe dollars - 250,000 of the old Zimbabwe dollars - to the US dollar, as opposed to the previous rate of 101,000 to one. However, foreign currency fetches at least four times this amount on the parallel market. Economists said the removal of zeroes in itself did not amount to a revaluation, but was simply aimed at making it easier for people handling increasingly unwieldy wads of banknotes as inflation soars. Zimbabwe has been issuing so-called bearer cheques in recent months, with increasingly high face values. Notes to the value of 50,000 and then 100,000 Zimbabwe dollars have appeared since the beginning of the year. The bills are known as bearer cheques since they are promissory notes rather than official legal tender, but are used in Zimbabwe in the same way as money. The government has announced a National Economic Development Priority Programme (NEDPP) in order to deal with the economic problems. Zimbabwe is suffering from shortages of food, fuel and foreign currency. In April, inflation passed 1,000% per annum for the first time. I think you guys missed the most important comment on St. L's post, he claims to be the start of a new era if you read his welcome post and now he is trying to muscle in. I’m against monopolies but will this youngin have the gnads to offer the DFM any real competition? has the DFM become lazy and just living off of its past victories and its sure footing in the Zimbabwe economy? Will Nosher be coming out of retirement? will EJ's dog be resurrected?

Unfortunately not. I had Fayz flown in to London for questioning, but nothing came of it. He tried to avoid the questions several times, and he even pretended to fall asleep.
My initial conclusions are that there were no PSP's missing, but it needs further investigation by yourself on your next mission to Dubai. the_zooter

I would have expected this in Karama ("copy watches, DVD, handbag, plastic scouring pad?") but not in an establishment of this nature. They are a pale shadow of the real McCoy but the look and feel is 'close enough for Government work' and they are packed in 24's for a mere paltry 50Dhs! Colour selection gives them away as being poor quality imitations and there is no bright pink option available... Teams of DFM operatives are, as we speak, scouring (sic.) the nation and ports of entry to discover how this blatant infringement of our potential monopoly could have occurred.
