Woo hoo finally got the first part of my papers through, need to go to the hospital tomorrow.
What's the deal - blood test and x-ray? Anything else? Are they big needles? Don;t mean to sound wussy but are they sensitive with the needles..
kanelli
I went to the hospital in Jebel Ali for my tests and I swear I was there a total of 10 minutes. A fast blood extraction (a couple of vials I think), and fast x-ray. There was no queue when I was there though. Good luck Scarlet, it will be just fine!
Concord
Hopefully the needle they used was only used a few times before.
Good luck.

scarlet...
all the very best!!...when i went for mine...had a bit of an unpleasant experiance...i think i wrote about it in an earlier post...ok the only peice of advice i can give you is...if someone tries to rush you thru the process...tell them to STOP....slow down and take thier time...as needle bruises can be quite nasty...also just make sure to ask them if they use fresh packs...(no need to worry about that...but it gives you time to take everything in...and they pause to explain things to you...)...SLOW the process down...DO NOT let them hurry you...i didnt have to get a chest x ray at all...and if you are going to a private hospital...i think the experiance is markedly better...for me...i went to the deira one...which is like a cattle market...was rushed in and out like a member of the secret service...and again...you'll be fine...but just dont let anyone rush or fluster you...

The only thing you have to worry about is the results! You just never know do you!
I did not have an x-ray!

blood test
they use really hugeeeeeeeeee needles and it really hurts, especially if the doc or nurse has an epliectic seizure while its in you. apparently its so long if they get it wrong the point come out the other side of your arm.
X ray
This isnt too bad, apparently only 1 in 5 get radiation sickness. You will notice many people walking around the malls and streets looking like they are suffering heat exhaustion - this is not the case, these are the one that had too high a dose of radiation. Also these are the people that you see Glowing in the dark when driving around at night.
Anal Examination.
All i can say is close your eyes and hold your breath. Make sure you close your eyes's before they start putting on the latex gloves. It is advisable to take a tube of your own KY Jelly. This makes the examination more bearable.
Electric Shock Treatment ( disguised as and ECG)
Make sure you take a bike crash helment with you. When they plug you in to 220 V and flick the switch many people take off the chair as the shakles break and your head smashes into the ceiling.
Reflex Test.
Whilst you are strapped in the chair to undergo the electric shock treatment the use a baseball bat on your kneecaps to test for leg and foot reflex , it bloddy hurts. Just ask the doctor not to take to far a run up before he swings.
Oral Examination.
Advisable to visit the dentist to see if any teeth are loose, its better to have them extracted this way by a proper dentist as opposed to the doctor at the clinics who just use electrical pliers.
Other than that Scarlet its pretty straighforward.
Good luck

Actually once i got into the hospital I was in stitches I was laughing so much at the process.
First off when i pulled up outside the hospital - a hawker grabbed me and aksed if I was getting the mediacl. Yes so he said you need typing and went down this alleyway to a typing office where you have to pay 110AED for typing and a health card??!! Then he walked me to the hopital and said go to desk 4 to pay.
So i go to desk 4 - they take another 420AED and say go to desk 5, where something gets signed, and they say go to number 7, where something else is written down, now go to 14, they take one look at me write something down, now go back to 7 where they look at the paper and write NO XRAY NEEDED. Ok now go to 9.
As a woman I get a ladies only blood test section and it's over quickly. But I'm lauging so much at the running from number to number.
Plus there's blood in the foyer where someones arm has obviously leaked a bit too much. The process is certainly not 1st world.
yorky500
WTF, you had to pay?
You gonna claim all this back from the Company?
scarlet
The company gave me the cash before I went

No worries they have a special floor for fainters - marble!
scarlet
It was the Maktoum hospital in Deira.
The needle didn't hurt and was over really quickly, it's just the environment that shock you.
And they're clean needles

Don't worry - the lady I had was VERY quick to get me on the couch when I told her I usually faint - I guess they don't want more blood from cracked skulls!
I usually use rescue remedy but have never seen it here ...
Any idea???
