Actually, I was referring to the driving and the crime, rather than costs. I've come across enough stories of Russian driving, and the President's motorcade is famous for speeding through streets after forcefully clearing streets that were clogged with traffic a few minutes earlier. Also, be ready for more wrong-way driving (than here) and no traffic signals even at 4-way junctions (which I saw on a youtube video). And as Arnie said, the mob owns the place. And from what I read, the fall of communism has created a huge gap between the rich and the poor.
All of the above is only what I came across in the media though. Check 'em out.

:) thanks so far, i've been reading up on it and have even checked out some of the rental accomodation sites.... if you think Dubai is overpriced
they are offering 150k gbp pa + 50k turnover based incentive and are open to negotiatins on the accomodation issue. to me this look sizable to say the least, but.... there must be a catch? or not?

For the second consecutive year Moscow has been ranked (based on a global survey) as the most expensive city in the world for expats
look here http://www.finfacts.ie/costofliving.htm
Just ask for $2M per year.
Good luck.

Whilst I know this is Dubai forums, I also know that we have some regular well travelled contributors.
I have applied for and will be attending an interview with the prospective employer for a position in Moscow (during the course of next week); is there anything that anyone can tell me about the cost of living/ general expat conditions and/or issues to look out for or address?
I've done a bit or reading/ searching, but would appreciate advice from someone who has either worked there or lived there.

Two things are for certain. Driving is MUCH worse there. So is crime.

Looks to me that it comes close to India? ;)
I've never been to Moscow, but from the countries I've visited/lived in, India (at least in few major cities) is the worst.

Let's not go far to Moscow, even our "beloved" Dubai also has it. Some people earns 1000-2000 AED, taking public buses, living with 4 others in a room, and still happy. Some people earns 50000 AED, driving expensive & biggest SUV, living in 5 BR villa, and not happy.
