Hi all,
I have just spent 3 days sending resumes/cv's and applying fo jobs to a variety of employment agencies in Dubai. Soooooooo bogeye'd now and need a break.
What are the chances of actually getting somewhere job wise? Am I waisting my time?
How has everyone else managed to get a job in Dubai? I work in offices and OH works in the trades.
Hope you're all having a good weekend!!!

how'd you get here? many people get jobs here by hearing about vacancies thru friends. Otherwise, they do what you do.

If your applying from the UK or outside of the UAE I would have thought that your chances are slim to none right now.

It seems that the situation is not so good all around the world. Most of the bosses are trying to dismiss part of employees to lower the costing,to run the company during the enconomic arisis.

So many people here have been laid off, that the few companies that are taking on are likely to hire locally rather than look abroad for new employees, as so many people will want to stay.
My friend works in rectruitment and says it's a complete disaster at the moment.
It's an employers market, they can have 100's of applicants for each job, so can pick and choose as they see fit. Unless you're in an industry where specialised skillsets are required, I'd say forget it.

Plus the cost is very much an issue now. There was a report in the newspaper that the companies are hiring singles only especially from the Western countries as they don't want to pay for family housing, tuition etc. AD companies are trying to take advantage by offering 40% of the salaries. I interviewed in AD and the interviewer told me to my face that he could get 2 workers for the kind of money I am making/asking.

Besides giving good advice regarding "not much hope" - I do understand that the world is in the s**t and not just Europe.
I haven't laughed so much in ages as when I read other peoples replies.

Woman quit bein so stiff! :x Lemme enjoy my English on dis forum, I find being gramatically correct to be rather boring!
Let me rephrase:
The tenor of the English language entails that to be proficient in the written and spoken word, being grammatically correct is of uttermost essence. But I say; why bother being so 'proper', so long as you get the message across!
Chocoholic
erm it's actually your spelling that is quite horrific! And if you think that writing and communicating properly is 'boring' then your attitude has alot to be desired.
It's not being stiff at all! I fail to understand why people who can write perfectly good English, insist on bastardising it so much!

Alrit granny watevr u say!
But I guess it's jus dat we belong to two different schools of thought! As long as we understand each, other then it's alrit!
Chocoholic
Granny? hahahaha I'm hipper than you'll ever know!

Plus it has nothing to do with age or ways of thinking, it's about doing something properly.
If you constantly write like that, it will progress into your everyday work. Do you think people would like to employ or look at cv's, work, dissertations etc from someone who works like that? Not really!
Misery Called Life
Thanx 4 d constructive critism!
I write this way only on DF, blogs etc.
Perish the thought, if i write like this in the proffessional arena though!

Ói! I remember this... I quote:
"Pfff typical 'I don't give a crap' reply - as expected.
With people like you around our planet is pretty much doomed. "
Say Hippy, whats your chocolate on that! Aiyaiyaiyai  8)
