Near-native level of proficiency - how hard can it be?

zzzane I've been in the UAE for a little over 6 months and can hold my own in the occasional short conversation or two. I'm getting to the point where I can speed read stuff written in Arabic. Understanding what's written though is a slower process since I have decipher everything word by word rather than crunch an entire sentence. It's just that I can't seem to join words together into meaningful sentences and no matter how hard I try, words just don't come naturally as I have to pause and think before I speak. Are there any non-Arabs on here who speak very fluently in Arabic? When I first came here, I thought learning Arabic would be pretty easy, much like Spanish and Italian. But boy oh boy I couldn't have been more wrong!
zzzane Does ANYONE speak Arabic on here? Bitakalam arabi? bushra21 hai, bes inta sa2lt ili mub arab itha yiramsun arabi Dubai Evil its not easy to just be fluent in arabic it is not a language you can learn in a short or even long courses yes you might get there if you try harder but i will tell you one thing for sure even some arabic speakers cant speak it well :) wish you the best mate rudeboy i have learnt all the swear words from my nephew who has learnt it all from his arabic friends and he is only 5 :D. imagine that. my nephews dad says mashallah whenever his lil son is talking in fluent arabic. but OH BoY OH boy how he doesnt know how his lil son is swearing at him in arabic :D
