Mustang: Its a Ford. Built by Americans. Nuff said.
Charger: Its a Chrysler and has eensy weensy little windows. Built by Americans. Still nuff said.
Lumina SS: Its Australian and they know how to make it into a 600bhp fire breathing monster! Go with the SS but try and get the Holden Specialist Vehicles version.

Nothing racist in it. With a totally unionised construction workforce, protectionist marketing and government imposed sales import levvies and a lack of motivational drive, I am decrying the potential quality of build and finish of the Detroit product against the dedication and competitive nature of the Australian manufacturing industry.
Its easy to stick a thumping great big gas guzzling engine in a chassis and then call it a 'Muscle Car' without thinking of the reasons why you should do it.

The highest powered Lumina they sell here is called the CR8. Its also a bit of a beast. 400hp, 550Nm of torque and 0-100 in about 4.9s! Its a bit on the expensive side though for a chevrolet. When I was looking around a year ago it was 165,000.
As far as going American, Im a Mustang GT owner and I love it. I test drove all of the cars you mentioned and I just thought the Mustang stuck out above the rest. You should really test drive them all and come up with your own opinion though! You also need to consider that some garages will give you a better deal, like free servicing etc.....

Unfortunately, the 600bhp version is the V8 Supercars race spec one. Track use only.
You can order a near enough one (about 550bhp) direct from HSV now. Its a personal import and not available through Liberty or Al Yusef motors.
