I think you find this type of condition in companies full of people who in general, actually hate their job. I don't mean you as an individual but everyone in general.
Usually the indicators are passionless people that aren't inspired by what they do.
So why all the gossip and bitchiness?
It makes the day more entertaining... sad but true.

in my opinion, it depends on the person really
Some dudes are sometimes competitive, so its hard to get things workin. Most of them are do a good job.
Women are easier to work with and usually get the job done more efficently in their own way.
Then again thats my opinion, please dont kill me :D

Heh! My take on the problem is this:
Here in Dubai, there are tons of stunning women who think they are the sh!t. There are also loads of slick blokes who love themselves to death - more than the women in fact!
The men are constantly trying to impress the ladies. Which in some cases might be appreciated. But where it's not, this only serves to make the women even more icy, even more suspicious and even more snooty.
I have just started work in the BurJuman Center and you can see it everywhere. The women here genuinely think that every conversation you make with them is directed towards one purpose only! And like I said, with the number of armani clad, rolex flashing corporate wolves sniffing around, who can blame them?
The result? The women turn into bigger bitches and the men, even bigger ****s!

I would say it depends because everyone is different in character which u cant define exactly that women are harder to work with or guys are harder to work with. I worked but if u wanna call me selfish go ahead. But I got my work done no matter what the cause.
Like my previous job is I had a female literally bitching about me to my line manager and stuff but no matter what she did it didnt effect me because I made changes in my dept which my boss liked me for, so no matter what she did, I did my job.
While before that I was working where one of the guys literally hated my guts and I kinda got a bad reputation in the company and plus I was newbie while he was working for 3 years elder to me and plus ladies didnt like me that much. But the best he tried every possible way to make my life hell since he was a senior but I showed him by knowing what I was talking abt work. I saved the company loads of money because of an idea I implemented and immediately in a month my salary increased like 1200 which took him a year and a half so he was naturally jealous.
So u see u cant really say if girls or guys are pain in the ass to work with. I rather say neutral cuz as long as u can get ur work done. Thats all there to it. But yes never fall in one thing specially in a work place that is love otherwise u never know ur kicking ur own tummy!!

So far, I have no issues working with both genders. But I have issues working with lazy ass3s, no common sense and spoonfeeding type of colleagues.
As the day goes by in my corporate life, I have learned to deal with this kind attitude at work. So long you project your professionalism and driven passion towards work, you will be fine.
