Meeting people in Dubai?


newfromLondon Hi everyone! I'm new to Dubai and have been here a month. One thing I have noticed in my short spell is that people do not seem to want to socialise! everyone at work is 'coupled up' or has a family to go to or just want to do their own thing.. surely I am missing something, there must be some single fun loving people out there that want to explore the UAE and beyond and meet people from all walks of life...I mean. that's why we pack up at home and move abroad right? to experience different things in life and meet different people - it's not all work, work work! i'm getting so bored now that I'm thinking of going back to the UK! I am a v sociable female, and have never had problems in meeting people and expanding my social circle in the past but this is just weird...maybe i was wrong about dubai. Perhaps it is just for people who want to make a quick buck and leave ??? Cheers!! :)

It takes time to find your feet here and the right circle of friends that suit you. Don't try to rush it, it will happen.
There is a heavy work ethic here (its really the only reason we are here) and also its highly competitive, but many people are looking over their shoulders right now as no job is secure in the present climate. Unlike the UK, there are no safety nets here and loss of your job tends to mean a total lifestyle breakdown or back on the plane.
There is a large 'couples' scene, but if you stick with it, you will find the right people for you. As a girl, you will be welcomed with open arms in any of the bars or clubs here and will be fighting off the sleaze bags with a big stick in no time!

Dubai Knight Companies here are always looking for qualified and experienced people. The intent of many is to create a better quality business in Dubai, however many will decide on price rather than quality first and take a lesser qualified person for less money if they can. They sent him here with all the works: Villa (120K USD) two brand new cars, hell, even maid service! Oh and he's no senior expat by any means. He has a simple Bachelor's in Science from an average American university w/5 years of experience. He's enjoying DXB.............too bad he's too damn conservative for my taste. So is it better to just seek an internal transfer to DXB/GCC ? rather then applying for jobs directly in the gulf ? what do you think ? Dubai Knight Likewise to the locals, a degree is a degree. Coming from a western educational background and western culture may give you an advantage over someone from an Asian business culture, but you will still have to compete on the same playing field. The mongering scene exists in DXB and commands a great demand and following. I thought people on this forum must know something or have seen something which would provide me with the information that I was seeking. I even got my response, however, it took a LOT of arm twisting and insults back and forth. Again, I never had any insincere intentions of any kind to disrupt or malign the social comments which take place on this forum. I admit, I made a mistake when I hurled verbal abuse towards the Bangladeshi and Fillipino's. So what ? we all lose our temper from time to time and I even send a private message to both users apologizing for my regretful comments. Places to go I would suggest are medium energy place , high energy clubs are great but depends where. Honestly speakin after a whole experience in Dubai I think Saloona in Mina al salam was the sh!t very nice classy people and very outgoin.
I dont classify people by nationalities but by their reality.

Frankly it is true, but what's wierd is that females are never alone over here in dubai, I do face the same problem in dubai, there is a lot of ego and pride hanging around these people, you should either be in the same working place, same uni maybe, or same neighborhood, building to actually have access to friendship.
However if you do find the right people for hanging out, you will definitly enjoy your time in Dubai! Definitly that is!.
