Lizards / geckos

Eva Hi, we just moved to our new house in Dubai, after a few months in an apartment, and have discovered lizards "living" in the house and using the curtains as their bathroom and also as their place to put their eggs....aghhhhhh!! gross!!! How can I keep them out, or get rid of the ones inside (other than pushing them towards the door; I mean, I am asking for something more "definitive")? I would also use poisons, if necessary (against my husband's opinion). Please, help.

Ask the Dubai knight to sleep at your bed room for one night :) A64Venice
You can get lizard traps. Or you can get an air rifle and shoot them! dbxsoul lizards/ gecko's are reptiles, they are attracted to the home for a number of reasons. warmth, protection and a food source; the last being the most important. you will normally find that if you have a lot of insects such as flies, mosquitos or even termites around your home they attract gecko's. in the evening insects are attracted to light sources and the gecko's simply sit around and pick them off. you could poison them, however this may ultimately lead to an increase in insects or spiders around your home. an indirect way and more effective in the long term would be to control the insects, removing the food source for the gecko's. don't keep unnecessery lights on in the evening that would otherwise attract insects etc... many people dislike them because of their reptilian charactaristics, they do however play an important roll around the house if this fact can be overlooked. the species of gecko that you get locally are not poisonous and are pretty reclusive, they will rather run away when confronted by a preditor larger than themselves (or a human). kanelli Those little guys are cute. (And too tiny to be shot with an air rifle  ). I would wash your curtains and collect and remove the lizards from your house. How many are you talking about? I've only ever had one or two appear every few months outside the house. In the Greens we had two lizards appear in the apartment on separate occasions - they seemed to hitch a ride on the maintenance and cleaning crew's trolley. Liban Lizards are good.... Especially when you deep fry them. HP Take a chinese girl or Dubai knight , i bet both of them can eat all of them without even cooking :) alexandra
and i am sure that she will find ur "wise" advice the best to follow
HP, man u r always there "helping" ppl ... XRW-147 Is that what the target on your hood is for Liban? Concord BBQ Lizard is a specialty dish in Dubai. When you go to one of the restaurants serving "local" food (you'll see them in the guide books), you should ask for "BBQ Lizard" it won't be on the menu but when you ask the wait staff they'll know you are "in the know" in Dubai and will be treated accordingly.

Chocoholic These little guys are completely harmless and are actually very good at gobbling up all the nasty insects that come into the house. They won't hurt you. Just wash your curtains, use humane traps to catch them and put the little guys outside. They're doing you a favour. Sara1983 OMG Lizards & geckos    SUCKS & CREEPY Chocoholic What do you mean OMG!!!! They're tiny, and very very cute. They won't hurt you, they'll run away at the sight of you. You probably have loads of them living in your place and don't realise it as you'll rarely see them. We have a couple in our villa and we only see them every now and again running up the wall. But they eat all those nasty mosqitos, flies and other nuisance bugs. Lizards and G's are the good guys, not the bad guys. XRW-147 These things are commonly found in most parts of SE Asia. They're harmless and as others have pointed out they act as a natural form of 'insecticide'. Chocoholic Just don't whatever you do, try and catch them by their tails. As an escape mechanism to get away from predators, the ends of their tails will fall off if caught by it. They do grow back over time however. Nick81 You should feel lucky your lizards are not Nile Monitor Lizards! Those beasts invaded Florida a couple years ago... dbxsoul HP have you hugged your lizard today??? Sara1983
lol alrighty coOL :D :P
OMG, she was talkin like she've got loads
and yeah those things are disgusting =- / XRW-147
I'm sure he enjoys 'huggin' it firmly every night.
Liban I enjoy squashing the lizards I see outside.... It makes an interesting noise when it dies... Also like to run over squirrels (but thats in Canada) and see if I can crush the stray cats in Dubai (sometimes its a hit)...  kanelli GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! XRW-147
Now the avatar makes sense... the little girl is pleading for more... carnage.
"Please sir, can I have more" Liban Did I tell you what I do to hamsters? I play darts with them. The more blood they splatter, the more points I give myself. I pluck out the eyes of little chicks and rabbits. I also like to anally electrocute dogs and sheep.... XRW-147
Still less gratifying than what Kiwis and Scots do to them. kanelli Actually, I thought his avatar made him look like a pedophile  Palkid7
Liban what did we say about eating lizards ?!!? :?
Always add some MAYO !!   Eva No, I have not hugged them, and I still think they are not that cute, considering they use the curtains as their bathroom and as the place to put their eggs (big families of these creatures!!)....it is disgusting!! XRW-147
 So we have categorized Liban as a pedophalistic, anti animal activist. I feel a whole new thread emerging here... Palkid7
Simply call any of the PEST control guys and ask them to do it for u ! Sara1983
Wise Action! Chocoholic Can I squish Liban to see what gratifying sound he makes when he dies? Sara1983
lol hahaha I give u permission :P XRW-147 You may find the action more satisfying, oops, sorry gratifying than the sound. Liban
Are you that overweight????   Liban
You are just itching for an anal electrocution young man! 8) the_zooter hey you guys - lay off Liban - he's a nice guy! XRW-147
That will "brighten" up my day(rier). Chocoholic Zoots, sorry to say but you haven't been here long enough to make that judgement. We've known Liban quitye a long time - he's one sick puppy! No, leave the puppies, leave them!!!!!! Liban
Awwww.... :lovestory: Chocoholic Okay, now you're freaking me out dude. XRW-147 From the makers of Along came Chocco, Everybody loves Arnie, and the Kanelli code. In association with DFM Productions comes a new DF feature film featuring Z, in his debut movie remake - The Peacekeeper. the_zooter
Liban is a lovely chap - so you go easy on him.
Mind you, I didn't think that yesterday, and its likely I might not think it tomorrow, so you'd better make the most of it Liban!! I'm in a good mood today!! Liban
I would never perform anal electrocution on a puppie!!! DAMN GIRL!!!
No, a puppy deserves the tender care provided only by testicular electrocution :) the_zooter
I've told you before - I don't like remakes!!!!     XRW-147
*plays theme song from Brokeback Mountain* Liban Then he bends over and gives new meaning to the police arrest phrase "spread'em". 8) Chocoholic :violent1: AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Can I do testicular electrocution on you? After I've pulled your toe nails out one by one! alexandra
u r way too cruel ...Liban  XRW-147
"Its a stick up" Liban
First you need to be cuffed. Also they may want to beat you... :) Liban
Pulling toe nails???
Choco if you are that hungry, I save my clippings so you can have some :) the_zooter
You're going down!! XRW-147
With where this is heading I'll have to side with Z on remakes - the Nut Cracker Prince was not meant to fold out this way  the_zooter
I think Chocs would if they tasted of Chocolate - otherwise I'm guessing she might pass on your offer Chocoholic Ewww, gross! Animals are cute fluffies, leave them alone. Or I could just let my dog chew off a few prize bits! The cat would probably p*** on them after but hey, who cares. XRW-147
Exposing your fluffies to that could be considered animal cruelty. Liban I found new use for my Philips trimmer.... Animals have such PINK skin :) Now lets see if my Gilette razor can just peel off that skin but make sure the animal doesn't die.... Choco shaking in her boots/flip flops/shoes/runners/sandles or whatnot... Chocoholic Choco, runs and stokes the fire, sharpening her knives in readiness the flay the skin off Libans' body whist he's still alive. raidah
i think he only tryes to tell us the experiences he went through by refering to animals. and he probably enjoyed all that electrocution stuff, just too shy to admit up front  right Liban?
best way to make women go nuts and jump on u, is if u start talking about maltreatement of animals.
    raidah
i was wellcomed in the hotel room by one of them :)
and it didnt kill me :P Liban Naphtaline power :) dbxsoul mothballs??? Liban
I think thats what it is... Not sure really what a mothball is... Sorry... But it looks like a ball. It is white and maybe 2 cms in diameter.... dbxsoul sounds about right, suppose it also depends on your definition of mothballs :) Liban
 dbxsoul f...ing big moth Liban
Pollution is changing the face of our planet.... dbxsoul the face of the planet it is in a constant state of flux, something is born, something dies ... others just end up with big balls  raidah
lizards have big balls?
:P  dbxsoul actually not, they have internal sex organs ... :D raidah
tell me more, i know nothing about organs and balls...
    Liban So basically lizard like to fcuk themselves? dbxsoul i think i'll leave that to your imagination.... the Naphtaline power won't kill them, just keep them away - thus not disturbing the delicate ecological balance of the springs .... for the flies and mosquitos i find one of those ultraviolet electronic insect zappers very effective without having to spray everything in sight :) dbxsoul
no, those are hemaphrodites... like earthworms Liban
Tell me more on hemaphrodites.... Is HP one? dbxsoul well without closer inspection i couldn't be sure... and quiet frankly i don't think i'm quiet up to that... although i may tend to opt for a 60/40 split at the moment based on the postings :)
