Living in Satwa - Any thoughts anyone???

syiem Shortlisting potential places to live in Dubai and thinking of Satwa, since it seems to be very close to SZR. Any thoughts of any decent apartments in the area, rents for an unfurnished 2BR and availability of domestic part time help? Cheers!
admog 2br in satwa 70-120k depending on quality - same as everywhere in Dubai really. Beware of employing domestic part time help, as strictly speaking, it is illegal to employ someone without a contract (visa legalities). While it happens all the time in Dubai without problem, if you have a case where the 'maid' steals anything from you and you report it to the police, then you will find yourself being put in a cell for a few hours, as you will have broken the law yourself. This has happened to someone I know in Dubai quite recently, so be careful. sage & onion
Careful admog lest you incur the wrath of others in the forum, interesting case though. admog
Just a 'heads up' to someone who won't know the 'ins and outs' of Dubai. Certainly no wrath intended, just a factual story. syiem Thanks folks. Useful advice. Debating between looking for a place in Satwa or Mankhool/Lamcy area. Satwa would be closer to work but not too sure abiut the area. Any thoughts? gtmash
Satwa seems to have more stories of car vandalism and of street kids beating up random people. Concord
Really?  Jeevan
Yea the story of the kids was out in the papers as well, i guess i have read bout a couple of incidences, and there might be a few which went unreported as well. ^ian^ Re: Domestic part time help It is quite legal to use the services of a professional company such as Jumeirah Maid Services on a part time basis. gtmash
You'll have to scan thru old issues of Gulf News, including letters and such. And well, yesterday there was the story of a girl getting slashed in the face in Diyafah. Tiny tabloids like 7Days don't cover everything, and the letters section, although fun to read, is crowded with crap.

Thought it was in the arm, and it happened in Bur Dubai? No? gtmash
That's the 7days story of another woman. The above is in Gulf News of a different college girl. Horrible pictures too. Concord Yes I saw the pictures of the woman with the face scars and headline but did not read the article . Terrible story. I am no detective "but I play one on tv". This was done by someone she knew and was angry at her. I say a male who rejected his advances or a former boyfriend. It not a "random" or robbery attack. p.s. I've been watching too many movies I think. But I bet I am right! p.s.2. It was not it Satwa. ^ian^
I would agree it couldn't have been random, and rather a specific attach.
Having read many crime books, it is someone she knows, and potentially someone who delights in her plight.
A random attacker would not do this to someone they don't know, as they would not get the rise out of seeing the damage they caused.
My money is on the deranged psycho kid who sits at the back of the class. gtmash
Where is Al Diyafah then? I assumed it is Diyafah street in Satwa.
