Living in Dubai as an expat

Mike O'Neill I just passed through DXB with Emirates and am amazed at how the airport is constantly going strong. How many expats are currently living in Dubai? I am Australian, live in Perth.
XRW-147 I'm from Perth as well Mike, but dang, thats about an open a question as one can get. Just a stab in the dark that less than 20% of people here are actually 'locals'. Mike O'Neill Oh right, are you working in oil and gas?? If you are, then what is the company you are working for?? I AM CANADIAN! Hi Mike, I am from Canada and just went through uae for three weeks. Dubai has 1.2m pop and about 250k are locals, there are as many or more UK expats; about 10k Canadians, one more in January! I am! Mike O'Neill Very cool and very nice to hear from a Canadian, my mum wants to go there some day to do the train trip from one side to the other. XRW-147
Yes to the first question but I plead the 5th on the latter. I AM CANADIAN! She would love it! There are many Canadians, that haven't enjoyed yet, shame as it is a large and beautiful country. Many Aussies in Vancouver for the skiing; seemed to be the same in Dubai! Ski Dubai, now that's cool! Mike O'Neill Please tell me the names of the companies that you work for in Dubai. I AM CANADIAN! Offshore Investor () i am. Mike O'Neill I want to know how easy it is to live in Dubai now also, how much does it cost for day to day living also?

^ian^ It's good but it's nothing like Australia. Some things are easy, some things are difficult, many things are different. I enjoy it. I think to get a good idea you should read around the website, especially the expat help forum, and you'll learn a lot. This site helped me tremendously in my move from Australia. XRW-147 Mike, You will find plenty of answers to your question in the Dubai Expat Help Forum section of this forum. Mike O'Neill Yes I thought some things would be difficult to get, I should think it costs more to buy wine then it does down here. ^ian^
At a restaurant wine is brutally expensive. If you have a liquor license or go to the Ajman/Barracuda holes in the wall, you can get average wines at good prices. Mike O'Neill Wine here in Aus is always at good prices mate. dubailover
I think the recent estimates suggested out of the 1.3M population about 900,000 are ex-pats! such lucky people these expects...how I sooo wish I was living there.... Mike O'Neill Hey mate, so glad I got a reply there finally. sage & onion

Mate, if you are handy with a broom and can live off 300 pounds per month you too can join the growing Dubai "expat" community.
