Jinn in Islam

event horizon I came across this article the other day of what Islam teaches on Jinn.
I knew that Jinn could possess people - I had read accounts on Muslim forums of forum members who were possessed/attacked by Jinn.
To me, it seems that since Jinn can possess humans, many mental health diseases, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and dissociative identity disorder can actually be attributed to Jinn.
I wonder what medical breakthroughs have resulted in the Muslim world as a result of the study of Jinn and exercising Jinn possession in people who, in the West, would be labeled as mentally unbalanced?
Hopefully, many Muslim universities are devoting their full resources to discovering Jinn which, to my knowledge, have still managed to elude scientists. It is possible, after all, that all the cultures outside of Islam that believe in the supernatural are actually the result of Jinn occasionally manifesting their presence in this world - if that is possible.

shafique I'll see your article on Jinn possessions and raise you an article on demonic possessions: As back-up, I'll cite the film 'exorcist' - I'm sure some people believe it was a documentary! :) (I'm sure you'll recall that I agree with you that many Muslims today share a lot with Medieval Christians - including superstitions such as this) Cheers, Shafique event horizon That's almost as strange as fringe Muslims who claim Jinn are actually bacteria! I'm afraid, though, that I'm not convinced that Jinn actually do have the ability to possess humans. What does the Koran say? Berrin Continue reading but don't get self-confused... Thanks for the link!
This definitely confirms the allegations made by some Muslims that Jinn really have possessed attacked them. Perhaps people should stop treating 'mental illness' as a chemical imbalance and solve it through exorcism?
What do you think? shafique I actually agree with eh-oh on this one - the superstitious Muslims who believe in demonic possessions are just as sincere in their beliefs as the Christians with similar beliefs are. It's good that eh-oh is bringing out the similarities between Christian and Muslim beliefs - first it was the fact both Bible and Quran give Noah's age at 950 (a fact eh-oh initially seemed to be unaware of) and now the belief in unseen beings that can possess people. It also highlights that both Christianity and Islam have a range of views when it comes to interpreting the verses on these subjects. Cheers, Shafique event horizon Some Muslims have strange ideas. For instance, I heard that in Islam, a prophet is buried at the spot where he died. I wonder what that means for 'prophets' who died in the lavatory? shafique  Strange reply in a thread about Jinn/demonic possessions! Cheers, Shafique
