canuckbid I have not read that article but others. Some think global warming leads to an ice age. When enough ice has melted it cools down the oceans which affect the world climate. The astmosphere then gets cooler as well bringing the start of an new ice age. Who knows? There is alot of science that is theory only and not fact.
RedKite Have you seen the low temperatures across the world on ? Not much global warming in evidence!! RedKite But there is NO global warming ! NASA temperature data shows that. The global warming effect you are talking about is if enough of the Greenland ice-cap melts to push too much fressh water into the North Atlantic , thereby finishing the Gulf Stream current which flows from the Caribbean towards NW Europe and gives us mild weather. we are at 52 degrees north in Wales, and on same latitude as Nova Scotia. Only the Gulf Stream keeps us mild. However, I regard Global warming /climate change as grossly exaggerated or even totally false. We had a SCORCHING summer in the UK 50 years ago in 1959 and another in 1976. No mention of "global warming" then !! The USA and Canada had a very cold winter last winter . The UK had a long snowy , cold spell, as well . Where is the warming?? Sun spots are the MAIN ruler of climate on Earth . There are not many of them at present. desertdudeshj

For once I agree with RK. The whole global warming thing is a scam and all this go green revolution could be a lame attempt to free the western world from its dependance on oil ( conspricary theory maybe ? ) and to create useless green industries.
The biggest producer of Co2 are the rain forests, shall we chop them down. All man made green house gases are a fraction of what is produced by nature and nature has been doing this since the begining of time.
In the seventies it was the new Ice age is comming and now within 30 years its melting ? There will always be people who claim doomsday is around the corner, only this time the world is being gay and actually listening to them.
Everyday there is a new doomsday theory to, meteor colisions, to the planets aligning and whacking us out of orbit
Global warming is just another mellenium bug. maybe in the next 30 years the earth would be spliting in to two ?
Even if something is happening a look into history shows the earth has always gone through these climatic cycles why shoukd it stop now. Its all due course in nature. canuckbid I'm no scientist but I do know one thing for sure. The north west passage has been a shortcut that many ships have wanted to use. People figured it would never be accessible. So much ice has melted now that it will soon be open year around. Satellite pictures from Nasa show the ice melting. It's not made up. Canada is putting in a deep sea base as everyone now wants to claim the artic. There is alot of resources up there. The so called experts said it would take 30 years for the amount of ice to melt that has disappeared in the last 2 years. So you can say its all hocus pocus or actually look at the facts. That's up to you. Oil tankers are being built right now to navigate the passage. Where do some of you people live? On the moon? The amount of facts, studies and theories you can come up for global warming there are twice the amount against it. Like I said in the 70's it was that the world is freezing and a new Ice age in upon us. Now its the exact opposite and you bet ya lil canucky behind in the next 30 it will be something else. SARS anyone ? canuckbid lol I'm not here to convince anyone of anything. I just watch the news and like that we have advanced technology like satellites to see the earth. Maybe it will turn around in 20 years. I have no idea. But ice has melted that has not before in 10,000 years. Have a look yourself. Next someone will be telling us man has never landed on the moon either and it was just trick photography.

What is pathetic is fear mongering and tyring to make a quick buck out of it. Think about it. If 100% undeniable proof was there that its all a sham do you think they would make it public ? All the green revolution, billions spent in the green industry and research. The millions employed in this created sector. It would be some serious egg in the face. Not to mention a lot of people are minting a lot of money from this green crap. canuckbid Well in Canada we are probally not big on the green kick either. There is only one country at the moment that has more known reserves than us. The Chinese have invested heavily recently in ours.
Bora Bora GOING GREEN and RUMORS: Industries start their own rumors to put the fear in people to generate revenue. What is happening to the air and our environment is being studied by scientists and through research it has been proven that there has been a shift in the quality of our environment. There has to be with all the chemicals that are used in everything we eat and products made. Of course the US government has controlled the use of pesticides by limiting the amount that can be used when spraying. They also allow for a certain percentage of absorption into the food, which in turn is ingested, of course it's a "healthy" allowance. Pesticides used on all food grown pollute the air and the body. When products containing high chemical doses are disposed of, by burning or deterioration, the gases released pollute the air and the earth. This is man's doing, not nature. So is "going green" necessary or not? If it was, governments would need to act and eliminate. To do that would mean the end to some things and stict control on other things. It would also mean hurting some very big businesses. So to keep a balance, government is telling you what you can do, eg. going green, while you are being poisoned slowly. On rumors: this brings to mind when the clock was to strike midnight, 31 December, leaving 1999 behind and entering into 2000 there was a "rumor" that all the computers all over the world were going to go haywire because a virus would strike servers and what have you. This rumor started a couple of months prior to the end of 1999. And what hit the market?? Programs that would prevent your computer from shutting down and the loss of all information. And then what happened to those computers that weren't "protected" when the clock struck midnite? Nothing!!!! It all boiled down to it being a scam and people panicking based on a rumor. And where did this rumor stem from? Well let's just say that companies that created these programs - which hit the market pretty fast - made a lot of money. How many pharaceutical companies started rumors about certain explosions of diseases and had the meds to prevent the spread or infection and people ran out getting innoculated? In the USA it takes years for meds to be approved before hitting the market, but in those instances it takes days or weeks. How many people suffered side effects, children born with birth defects because of those rumors? Thalidomide anyone? Pharma companies make money and their stocks increase in value. It comes down to one basic thing: BIG BUSINESS and MONEY. This is the world we live in.

Trees take in CO2 during photosynthesis and give out oxygen,thereby trapping carbon. Mammals need O2 to breathe obviously, so the more trees the better. During the MEDIAEVAL WARM PERIOD from about AD 800 to AD 1400, grapes were grown almost as far north as Scotland and Greenland was farmed by the Vikings. You can't farm Greenland today anything like that. How do you know that sea passages were not open? They must have been in the Warm Period.. Then the Little Ice Age of 1600 to 1850 saw the THAMES FREEZE HARD in winter and ICE FAIRS held on the ice. That was down to SUN SPOTS and Icelandic volcanic activity that threw millions of toones of fine dust into the atmosphere, cutting out the sun's rays and cooling Europe. One reason that the NORTH EAST passage around Siberia is opening in SUMMER is better, stronger ice-breaking ships and satellite photos for guidance are better. RedKite It was said that the North EAST passage has never been ice free before..........yet small ships were getting through in summer 70 YEARS ago and at various times before and after. Besides, there has been NO global warming for 10 years according to NASA , not me !!
By the way, also mentions activities of sub-sea volcanoes . They are ignored by many, but at the edge of every tectonic plate , they must have a tremendous sea-heating effect.

Like I said before all this this green schmeen doomsday scenario is just utter nonsense thought up by people with nothing better to do. There have always been dramctic climatic events and changes and they will continue to do so. The UAE desert was a thriving ocean once ( you can still find fossils of marine creatures in the deep desert. What caused that ? The african sahara was a lush green once, its a desert now what caused that. These are just cycles of nature and more to do with the sun than anything else. Agreed quality of air is getting poorer. But ways of purifing it are already underway. from talks of artifical trees to pumping it back into the earth into empty oil wells. Doomdaysayers just need something to cling on and this green movement is just another crutch. What I find unbelieveable is the amount of people digesting this trash. The popular Media really has the world nuts in its clasp, canuckbid I'll leave it for the scientists to guess what is going on.
