Well, I'll probably drag my bum to Rugby training in the next couple of weeks, but I'm over the hill now so that will be more of a social thing.
I'd like something to occupy my time, but not wittle it away so-to-speak.

I used to play a bit of golf but its just too hot at the moment, that and I'm looking for something that I could do in my own time if necessary, i.e. in the evenings, but also on weekends. ajb

Reminds me of a funny story from my college days. I spent one summer working at a pool selling tickets. At the end of each day, I would go to the office of the community center where the pool was, to give the secretary the money and receipts. She would count the money twice, once in English, once in her native Spanish - just to double check herself. And she never got the same amount. It used to drive me crazy!

lemme ask u smthing. what is a hobby in ur definition? in mine is smthing that u enjoy doing. it can be ur work, or smthing u do in ur free time. now since i said enjoy, ill go from here. how can anybody know what u enjoy doing? we could come up with ideas or tell u what we have as hobbies, but it has to be u, who knows what ur attracted to. there r a million things. try finding a club that has anything ur interested in and go from there. ^ian^
Something to exercise your mind or your body, but you do it for enjoyment, not for work or education (unless you find education fun but that's a wobbly one).

We could call it "doing an arnie" !! Eros One thing i love doing is collecting nice movies and watching them. I dont get much time to watch movies nowadays, so whenever i get the time i buy DVDs of movies i have always wanted to watch( still havent watched Dr. Zhivago, Malcom X, Ali, etc.!!) and watch them. I even maintain a list!!! Maybe u can do that. ^ian^

There are MahJong houses and the occasional Texas Holdem Games but you need to know someone and for Mahjong you have to Filipino at most of them, even kongers have a difficult time finding a game here.
For ian--> since you are raining champ of DF Bowling, they do have leagues here why not join one? indoors so all good for this time of year. I'm also starting a Squash ladder in the Marina area if that is more your taste, I'm calling bottom ring though :lol: :lol: ^ian^
I'm quite happy with my work but need a release from it.
It is a great position to be in to have something of a hobby turn into work though, but you have to be careful it doesn't suck the passion out of you. ^ian^
I have thought about bowling, but I'd like to embark on something new. Bowling every now and then is fun, but every week becomes a bit boring.

My hubby is one of those crazy guys who still plays all summer long. Desert Scorpion Colecting Snakes & Scorpions and to a lesser degree spiders dbxsoul cool, photography, reading and ... collecting insects :violent3: girl_glen have you tried photography? this would be a good time to document what is happening in dubai while the face of the city is changing on a daily basis. yorky500 Shooting, Sitting in Shopping malls at the coffee shop with your sunglasses on, watching the world/women go/walk by! :lol: Scuba Diving, I am thinking of taking up shooting. Skeet shooting is ace. Princess Banana Hammock Go skydiving with DK... Once you pop you can't stop apparently. But you have to put up with watching skydiving movies for hours on end and talking about it ALL the time. At least it's an interesting sport... it's not like cricket or anything! My uncle owns a property west of Rockhampton near a little town called Blackwater. We used to go there on weekends and during the school holiday and do the cattle-raring thing.
I used to have a particular horse I liked riding called "Cobalt". Unfortunately, one week I turned up to find that Cobalt had been replaced by a Yamaha YZ-250. Trailbikes just aren't the same, although a lot of serious fun.

Look out for me in an Emirates Driving Institute car near you! :lol: shafique I used to shoot in the UK and have only been to the JA shooting range once here. I was pathetic - I blame the guns myself :) The bummer is that you're not alowed to own a gun here, so I had to sell my shotgun before coming here. Anyway - if anyone wants to go skeet (or another discipline) shooting, let me know - it's more fun with a group of people. Oh, on the subject of hobbies - what about kite-surfing. :P :P :P :P :P kanelli Wow, skeet shooting, interesting! I have a new friend who has practised Akido for many years. He says it is excellent. It is a martial art where you use the other person's momentum etc. to deflect their attacks. Unlike many other martial arts, there is no kicking and punching. You need to learn how to roll and dive so that you don't get any arms or collarbones broken etc., but other than that you don't have to be that physically fit. I'm going to try Akido at some point, because it seems useful and fun! Apparently women excel at Akido. ^ian^
Ugh.. sounds like one of those martial arts where finesse is required.
Me, if I took a martial art up, I'd want to be able to splinter railway sleepers with my forehead, none of this ducking and diving rot.

I think being able to be bashed in the head with a railway sleeper and stay coherent would be more helpful :wink: shafique Aikido is a great martial art, but there are aggressive forms and less aggressive forms of the art as well. Steven Seagal is a Aikido expert and uses Aikido holds and throws in his movies (but please don't judge Aikido by the quality of SS's acting!) I did an introductory course in Aikido in the UK, but never took it up.. there is an Aikido club in Dubai and I have the schedule...kanelli if you take it up let me know and I may tag along. constantine

Wow, I haven't ridden a horse in a long time. Chocoholic I was bringing on an Irish Thoroughbred for a friend but then she left the company so I couldn't go anymore - booohoo! Chocoholic Ahhhh sweet. Well I used to do the whole thing when I was younger, dressage, show jumping, cross country - awsome fun, luckily I just used to bounce when I came off every now and then, but hairaising bombing through the countryside over 4ft jumps. kanelli Oops, sorry for spelling Aikido wrong. I was going by my friend's pronunciation. (Didn't actually look it up!) Bad girl. :oops: I'll find out some more info on the Dubai Aikido place. I've actually done Karate...and was a yellow belt...but trust me...when you are in a real fight...the only thing that helps is street fighting...and a strong will not to back down...or a good presence of mind to walk away if need be...but having said that...am curious to see how well i can adopt to aikido...as the techniques and principals are radically different... raidah

Before when I was still in college I loved climbing mountains (for a hobby ok? , im not a monkey :P ) With that comes drinking and travelling of course.
In Japan visiting disco/bars, drinking, and travelling still.
But when I came to Dubai...OMG no mountains to climb, no good bars for me...what can I say my hobby now is DF :? walla! :twisted: XRW-147
