Quite good. A few problems - petrol and algae in the ocean and hot water in the pool on summer.

But sometimes Dubai doesn't let you go ...

The only service I'm interested in at a hotel is a clean room that's quiet and properly cooled in summer.

Le Meridien Al Aqah is one of my faves.
The service is just fantastic, the staff are really accommodating. Not comparable at all to Dubai hotel services.
The warmth is completely different.

what planet are you guys from the Le Meridian in Al Aqua is complete and utter crap. When i stayed there back in the summer for 4 days they ended up not charging me a single dirham. Its not comparable because its cheap and thats why people go there and because they cant afford the prices of the proper 5*'s along Jumeira
I have just come back from Le Royal Meridian, the two hotels are worlds apart.

Oh crap. I read the first few posts here and then went and booked a couple of days in Le Meridien Al Aqah, then arniegang posts that one saying it is crap.
In what ways is it 'crap'? Most of the reviews I saw from people online said it was good.
Dubai Knight
The fish restaurant there is worth a visit...
Never been able to afford a stay, but the corner of the wheelie bin where I was staying was comparatively comfortable until they dumped a load of fish tails on me in the morning...

That's ok then. I'm an asshole from Dubai myself.
BTW: Will I have any problems checking in with a lady friend rather than a (non-existent) wife?

Definitely no problem, Cap, but you are allowed only one lady in a room, no more.... To be frank I've never told about any lady on check in independ on who she was.
Captain Australia
One lady will be just fine thank you. Unless..... [slap]
haha!

Don't know if it will affect your holiday since you will probably be spending most of the weekend in the hotel room,
but there has been an algee bloom problem there for the past few months and swimming in the ocean is not advised.
And with 25 oil tankers parked off the coast ,it isn't surprising that they regularly have a problems with oil on the beach.

DK will confirm i am a frequent user of 5* hotels. Put it this way the only hotel i haven't stayed at along the Jumeira stretch is the One and Only.
It depends what standard you are looking for really. In my opinion the Meridian doesn't measure up to 5* compared with the 5*'s in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
One of the crap signs of a cheaper hotel is they allow Virgin (as in Richard Branson) guests in on an all inclusive basis. Obviously they are nausious Brits who can't afford anything more "up - market". They are easilly identified with rubber bands on their wrists and are more often than not drunk between the hours of 10am and Midnight.
This hotel is the only one in the Emirates to offer this facility that should tell you a lot.
However, whilst there i visited the newly opened one next door, see here:
Its the Iberhotel Miramar and to be perfectly blunt it will cause embarrassment to all the other hotels along Aqua Beach. It is the dogs nuts and would easilly compare to any true 5* in Dubai. And the best bit............. its half the price of the Meridan next door. I would put it on a par in design to Bab Al Shams.
It was full of locals when i was there and that says a lot in itself.

I have just come back from Le Royal Meridian, the two hotels are worlds apart.
I've stayed at Le Meridien Al Aqah 3 times, all experiences are good.
I've stayed also at Royal Mirage, The Ritz Carlton, Le Royal Meridien, Mina A-Salam, Novotel, Beach Rotana (AUH), JBH, Dusit, Bab Al Shams, Qamardeen....
Therefore, I had my own opinion to compare the so-called "expensive proper hotels 5* hotels in Jumeirah.
For me, the service is not at all comparable (considering my own judgement ofcourse)
By the way, since we are in the business of coffee equipment, I know by fact that the "so-called proper expensive 5* hotels" have operational coffee machines with cockroaches inside (we had taken photos)...next time, be careful in drinking your next cappuccino there....as it might be the one I had taken photo of.

....i forgot to add, I had seen also several "internal operations" like kitchen and everything....but I shall stop here now before divulging more information that will change your mind about the so called "proper expensive 5* hotel" along the stretch of Jumeirah.
