High rents.. housing allowance sufficient?

OMDB Hi guys! :) It's been a while since I have been posting on this board, but it seems that the time is coming for me to move to Dubai :) The offer seems great for me (35k p.m. salary, 160k housing allowance plus some more goodies). Anyhow... it doesn't seem to be as great any more as it used to be half a year ago. The rents still seem to be going up and up :? Is it still possible to get a decent place for 160k? I don't need much space, a 1 BR is ok (2 BR would be better), but I really want to live in a nice area. When looking at the ads in Gulf News I can almost answer the question by myself - 1 BR seems to be possible 2 BR difficult... is that true? How do you think will it be like in half a year? Probably even more difficult? Another issue is the availability. Is it right that it is quite difficult to get a flat in nice areas like the Green Community (which I would prefer mostly). Thanks for your help... I'm just a bit unsure. Don't wanna pay rent out of my salary. Cheers, Jay
K-Dog You should be able to get a nice 1 BRM in JBR for 160k. JBR is probably one of the nicest areas in Duabi. However 2 BDRM is not hard to find for 160 k in decent communities like the Marina, JLT etc. Discovery Gardens is a brand new community next to Ibn Battuta Mall. 2 BDRMs are going for around 140k. nuzbim you should have no trouble with a 2 bedroom at JBR, i'm currently livin there and see plenty of places for 150-170 depending on the view for a 2 bedroom.
therjv ya.. 160k is a decent housing allowance.. i think you could easily fit a 2 bedroom in jbr in that much.. maybe if you look around a bit you might find something in the marina or jumeirah lake towers also..with higher floor and some nice views... though if your only looking only for a 1br i'd suggest lower your budget.. i think 1 bed should be in the range of 110-140k..
