Yesterday I drove to AD and after stopping at the first ADNOC for petrol I got harrassed by men in two cars.
The first driving at 120km alongside me with his windows down was gesturing for me to give my phone number, I sped up to get away but was still chased at 140km then I picked up my mobile and made to call the police and he sped off.
The 2nd drove alongside me after the 1st guy pi$$ed off and once we got to abu Dhabi he gestured for me to pull over and I shook my head and then he put his hands together, please please. Finally I flashed my hand at him (with ring) and he's like sorry sorry and sped off.
Is this normal? i know women get stared at, but chased in cars??
Where's the weirdest place you've been harassed.

Lets just say for starters you don't want to be walking within "reaching" distance from cars on the street.

Next time don't threaten to phone Police, do it. It's the only way to stop these idiots.

I'd rather wish all countries legalize castration... I remember something about it in the US. They were thinking of castrating sex offenders, rapists, pedophiles,... Some guy was actually asking for it because he just couldn't control himself. This might sound barbaric, but it isn't more cruel that what one of these sick bastards could do to a woman.

Are national women harassed? Does wearing an abaya protect you from this?

Not sure... Anyway I am not sure this happens THAT frequently. Just act as if you're calling the police as soon as someone bothers you. Or just call them and do all women a favor by putting these jerks behind bars...

Excellent question, interesting to see if we get any answers

it probably does. so we should start doing the same?
u probably know as well as i do, that men use the lousy excuse when they hit on a woman, that she was wearing a mini or a top, etc. that she was being too provocative :?

I really really don't think you will need any of this in Dubai. It's one of the safest cities I've been to and there're always ALWAYS plenty of cars on the roads so the chance of you getting chased by someone with no1 around is close to 0.
As to being hit on by some guys in clubs/pubs well it's the same as anywhere else. Unless you always paralyze guys who try to talk to you...

great logic. I've witnessed stuff like that in Los Angeles and Paris. Do those qualify as "third world places" too?

So you really believe that Dubai is a Third World Country, I am sure the present administration would not agree with your assessment.
As for Female harassment, of course it happens all over the world, however it needs to be reported to the proper authorities in order for something to be done about it.
Concord
My 2 fils,
Dubai is not a third world country just administered (at service level) on third world standards and inhabited by many third world residents (or at least they should be living there even some born, raised or living in first world places).

I confess we once chased some hawaat girls half way across Dubai till they finally reached city center, we end up having a nice time togeather I was surprised they both liked being chased, I think they liked all the attention. Anyhow I am glad all the petrol I wasted on them finally paid off.

scarelet happens all the time. YOu would probably get harassed more if you were wearing an abaya. Remember alot of those cars on teh way to Abu Dhabi are from towns in the middle of the desert and the highway is the only pace they get to see any women hehe ..
But as someone has said before, just get plate number and call the cops.

Not at all! I've had to deal with mad men in the past. Men usually pick on women they see as vulnerable and can intimidate, they don't expect a woman to turn around and start mouthing off at them and to make a scene it normally scars them and they usually run away in the other direction, when they realise they've approached the wrong girl who won't stand for that crap.
One time soke girls friends and I were leaving a mates house and three guys were pulled up next to us as we walked to the car, they were asking us for our numbers and to get in their car and go with them, we all walked straight upto them and started giving them hassle in the middle of the street, they soon disappeared.

scarlet,
next time something like this happen to u just take the car's plate number, go to a polic station and tell them the story and give them the numbers, they will bring them even if they were on the other end of the UAE. I mean such things are usually delt seriously by the police !! But always keep ignoring people with such an attitude!!
i remember once a friend of mine and I saw someone doing the same thing to a women on our way to AD, we kept fu.king his way up by braking in front of him and hindering his way !! he got really pissed off and drove away yet we kept following him until he got really scared thinking that we are police or something !! Well, after all my friend and I really enjoyed making the suck'rs life so miserable during those 20-30 minutes chase !!
So guys watch out if I am on the road !!
