What is the area around the Hard Rock Cafe like?
I understand that it's near the Media City, Internet City, etc. Is there much in the way of restaurants (besides the HRC itself) and shopping?
How about taxi stands or bus stops?

Lots of restuarants, hotels and bust stops and taxi standds :)
almost every building in the internet city, media city and the knolwedge village has a food court in int. plus the Dubai marina next door has nice cafes and restuarants. Also Le royal meridian and royal mirage are close by and have lots of options too ..
so ya .. its pretty lively :)

That's good to know.
You confirmed what somebody told me about the area. He said that just a few years ago it was on the edge of town, but now it is pretty built up.
Guess Dubai has been growing fast.

Don't forget you have the Ibn Battutta mall just down the road. Forget using the bus though it's a nightmare and they never run to schedule and are always packed.
Have to say that area is somewhat of a building site at the moment, have you noticed how close the new flyover goes to the ski slope? totally nuts.

The junction at Hard Rock Cafe/Media City is literally hell on earth. Until they finish the other junctions, you literally have to plan your daily travels around it. For travelling south you can now go via the Marina and slip onto Sheikh Zayed from there, but that junction.... *shudder*...
