I went to gym last weekend. the one in city center ( sofitel hotel). It was not bad. they got gym, open swimming poor (warm water on the top of building), small sauna, shower place...
so I am planing to go there at least once a week. also heard one in crown plaza, it's much cheap than sofitel hotel one. but i don't how is it. have you been there? or do you know any good gym in dubai?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to join a place on an annual basis? Cheaper options would be Dubai Country Club and say Al Nasir Leisureland- sorry no idea of what their facilities are like, but if you are serious about a workout flashy surroundings won't be a top priority I would imagine.

for membership must be cheaper, i think. but I might go only like once a week. coz feels tired after work. :). I don't wanna get membership.
you are right, If I am serious about a workout. i can make it anywhere. but gym and swimming is much better for me. coz i love swimming.
thanks

I'm a memver of Sofitel, I like it plus 6 months membership is just half the annual, they don't charge more than half for that if you get what I mean.
It's 1,200 for 6 months, I do that and then just renew for another 6.
That's when I can be bothered to actually get off my bum and go, which is why it's going flat!

For the membership: AED3,000 for annual, and AED1,500 for half of annual, they told that last time. it's just on my way from office to home. it sounds good for me.

I didn't really talk about the fairness in gender. but It always happen in dubai.
I don't know why for gym girls is cheaper than guys. they do the same things and use the same facilities.

The girls probably get paid less for doing the same job as a guy!! So in a roundabout way it's fair!! :P

I don't think girls get paid less than us. maybe girls need more $$ to buy nice clothes...

True- a good tweed skirt, tights and birkenstocks can set you back quite a bit!
Nucleus
"dhs250 for one time?"
It is the monthly fee, but they have very good set of machines.

You can try Gold's Gym, which will cost you 150 per month. I don't prefer Gold's gym and it doesn't have swimming.
uaeaussie
If you want a true weights gym the one on the corner of defence round about is the best but mainly men go there cheap and good set up
ajoy
the sea men's club is a nice place too..
its got a swimming pool as well.. its free for seamen's book holders..but others have to take a membership on some nominal annual subscription..

My fashion sense is unique, Sniper. Truly, tho' women ARE underpaid here when they are a spouse. You'd think because there are no perks involved ie medical, accomodation etc the pay would be better but that is not the case. I think companies, in general, take advantage.
ilfab
Yeah companies are B******* !!!!
let's all become communists
seriously u're right, they're takin the P***, I think Dubai is among the worst countries when it comes to discrimination in work (u're indian : 5 times less than europeans etc...)
GAB
Sorry to say but this is not the only place that does this. The last place we lived in was a first world country (yep, it is on the list!! and how??) BUT let their overseas workers live in containers on construction sites and labourers/workers were transported in the back of tray top trucks-my daughter, 8 at the time asked me if that is what is called racism (young but worldly wise). So by comparison and since this place has only effectively developed recently I'd say the UAE can show a few other places a thing or two. So although I disagree with the discrepancies in pay etc from my experience it is hardly the worst. Foreigners can buy property is also a plus (not that I can afford too!!).

It might be a bit late for me to reply to this posting, but anyway. I used to manage LifeStyle between 2000 and 2002. It's definitely a nice place to work out. The gym was/certainely still is packed with top of the art equipment. The aerobic studio was/must probably still is very small as there was no possibility to increase the size of the room. Changing rooms are large and safe and clean (they were at least). 2 A/C squash courts. Don't know if Maqbool still there.
There are huge possibilities to make this place much bigger. I made plans during that time but 911 hit us and then hotel business was not doing well -at least for a few months. I visualize very well how the place could be after renovation. And keep in mind it's in the centre of the city. I mean at this time it was the centre. Plus free car park available.
Re: the rate difference between men and women. The first action i took was to have one rate for everybody. Don't know if they have changed their rate structure.
Definitely a place i would recommend to all. Body builders -hardcore ones- will find weights heavy enough. And for the others, it is not an intimidating place and the staff was/is helpful.
